I use a couple of 4x4 pickups through work from time to time, I have to agree with the above, they are thirsty, slow, bumpy, cramped, awful bloody things.

We have a 2003 citroen relay in work and out of all our vans, its the best I think. We also have a transit, VW of some sort and a vauxhall combi, so a good range I suppose.

It tows anything you throw at it, I've seen it loaded up to the roof and it copes no problem, only thing is it might be a bit big for what you need if you're looking at transit connects?

My dad has a Vauxhall Vivaro, can't think of anything bad about it tbh.

a small mk6 transit can be had for £2k fairly easily, if you can stretch to more then you'll get less miles and younger ones, that's what I'd go for.

an ex-RAC 90 ps T330 is a good choice as they are the smallest 2.4L RWD version, ideal if you ever need to tow anything but don't need a massive van.

yes Peugeot do good diesels, but ford aren't bad at all nowadays, they share a lot of technology.

vivaros have electrical, clutch and engine issues, namely liking to go BANG ! not very nice to work on.

transits, - DMF's, fuel pumps, doddle to fix.

pug/citroen, generally very good, no DMF's till the later 1.6 HDI, not that they give as much trouble as they did years ago.

Astra's = Rust no need to say any more,

The Renault/Vaux vivaros are bad, THe 2 I know have had new engines or the bloke over the road hardly ever has it due to being at the Garage or the AA being there almost every 2>3 weeks,

Transit's maybe not the quickest or best van but they do the job well, expect them to start rusting again thou when they get around 6+ years old
