Direct Swap Engines?

Recommended Posts

Paul Smith

Hi

Are there any other engines that are a straight swap in to the 205?

As in from 306's, 106's, 405's?

Thanks

Paul

Are you after an engine from a different model peugeot thats the same as a 205 gti one, or are you after a different engine that would be a straight swap?

If it's the latter then I don't think there are any.

both or either really, its just i see alot of people list engines that state they will fit the GTI but they are similar to mine but different so I was wondering really?

u can fit anything if you have the time and money! :)

what do you use the car for? what do you want a different engine for?

you could have searched for this and found an answer btw.

Your right a lot of lumps can be gently rammed in lol

I use the car as a bit of a run around really but its also a bit of a project car but looks like i might need a new lump so was thinking of what might drop in farely straight forward. Or I might just drop a 1.9 in and turbo it, just worried on how much PSI standards internals can take.

there are quite a few different engines that will go in, in fairness a quick look through the projects on here would have shown you this

these are the more common ones, but dont quote me on the power figures though

306 engines - gti6 = 2.0 16v 167bhp, s16 = 2.0 16v 160bhp

405 engines - mi16 alloy block 1.9 16v 160bhp (this came in the earlier cars), mi16 iron block = 2.0 16v 160bhp (later cars and the same engine as the s16)

406 engines - sri = 2.0 8v turbo 150bhp, v6 - 3.0 24v 190ish bhp (takes quite a few mods to fit)

most of these engines can be found in citroens as well

xsara vts - is the same engine as the gti6 but with a very good 5 speed box

the tu engines in 106s and saxos eg, gti and vts will fit in the lower speck 205s but not sure if the fit straight in a gti

all of these engines will require you modifying your car to get them to fit, some minor mods some major

dont let this put you off though, everything you need to know to do any of these conversions is contained on this site and even though some of us grumble about people not using the search we are all willing to help if its within our power

good luck with the swap if you decide to do it :)

the tu engines will fit, but the lower engine mount may be different. can move the mount along the subframe, or fit base model s/f, but u dont realy wanna do this.

2l 16v mi16 was 150 bhp, but this may be due to cat fitted.

mi16 suits the 205 better, feels right if you get my drift lol! gti6 feels lathargic, although it is still quick.

Hi

Thank you for this info it has been a great help i like he sounds of the xsara vts engine being the gti6 lump with the 5 speed box. how sturdy is the gti6 engine i here a lot of these giving up at a young age?
