My Disco Days Are Over!

My faithfull daily driver NXXX MPV 2.5tdi Discovery died in style. Coming back along the A14 with abouth 18 miles to go to get to Ipswich the power went, yet the car happily idled, so thinking it was just a snapped accelerrator (sp) cable no real bother. Thankfully I managed to get the car to roll into a layby. Pulled the bonnet catch looked up and noticed smoke, grabbed my phone and very important Ipod then got out the car. Ten minutes later two fire engines with two police cars and one destoyed engine bay and blacked out windows. Got to deal with the insurance today, thankfully I was fully comp with protected no claims, however I'm not expecting thousands due to the age and milage. I will get some pics up later today.

Also I live in Clacton On Sea and the insurers took the car to Thetford but did not tell the recovery company (they had agreed to my home originally), which I'm not happy so my wife had to pick me up and the horse trailer I was towing at the time.

Phew, dead car... from the title I thought you'd lost both your legs in accident or something. :o

Have fun with the insurance company. In nearly 20 years of car insurance and nearly as long with house insurance, I've never made any sort of claim on any insurance policy. And long may that continue!

That happened years ago!

Had a chat with the insurers today and they are taking the car to a local repair shop on monday to be assessed, I'm not sure really as one picture would say it all, but at least I will be able to retreive all those lost pennies down the side of the seats and smell even more of fire! They will then let me have a hire car for 14 days, you know the fastest cars money cannot buy :o I can also put in for personal effects, result as I did not realise they were covered, but on the downside my excess is £400, and not the £250 I thought it was.

My wife drove past it yesterday on the A14, she said it looked quite nasty.

Thats bad news, any idea on what started the fire? Ive never heard of a 300 Tdi going up in smoke, few v8's but not the diesels.
