Mi16 Starter Motor

Recommended Posts

Lewis205mi

My car seems to kill starter motors every 8 months or so, is it worth getting a 205 diesel starter for my mi as i thought that it would be more robust than the standard ones ive been getting?

What do you guys think and also have you got a part number for either the diesel one or the mi?

Thanks

I have no idea why people use Derv starters, The only ones to use are the slim body ones, the old style ones are cr*p

The most recent time which is this week i got into the car to start it and there was nothing it didn't even click, so i tapped the solenoid and it started to work but it was as though the battery was flat (car turned over maybe 3 revolutions then started clicking), so i put a known good battery on it which made no difference,i then checked the engine and battery earth straps and used jump leads as an extra earths which also didnt work.

I contacted a local auto electrician which is who we always use, he had a look right through the car and said the starter was dead, so i bought a new one from a motor factors and its exactly the same as before.

If i put two battery's on the car in parallel with each other the car just about turns over fast enough to start the car.

Its as though there's a bad connection some where which is drawing alot of current but the auto elec is adamant that there is enough power getting to the starter to start the car.

I thought that a diesel starter would be better as the diesels are higher compression.

Thanks

Sounds to me that it's not getting enough juice. Check wiring and connection to the starter, common fault.

I had the dreaded clicky starter, and replaced the wire from the brown plugs under dash all the way to the starter with a slightly bigger csa. Always fires within a couple of whires of the starter now.

Don't remember 8v's to well, but isn't the starter feed via that sensor plug over the gearbox? Thats a known problem on its own!
