19 - I spotted the police they eventually stopped me a mile or so later later in a 205GR. told them where I had noticed them and they let me on my way after a stay safe talk.

23 - Pulled after a set of traffic lights as I had apparently set off quickly in a AX GT trying to keep up with a Astra GTE, my version I was simply keeping up with the traffic flow as I was the last in the queue and it was 2:30am. The police clocked me at 38, got a producer for a dodgy handbrake, told also if I had been doing 39 I would have been done for speeding.

23 - stopped in a AX GT as it was severely leaning in the corner, again in the early hours, they were travelling the other way and spun it around and stopped me, another chat and on my way with no points.

27 - Done for 47 in a 30 going into Manchester late for an exam on a triple carriageway in a 205 xs, thank god I wasn't in an MI16 powered 205!

29 - Went to look at a Sorrento 205 in a dodgy area, arranged to meet the seller at a row of shops, I then followed their MK4/5 escort, within 2 mins there was a traffic car with the hazards behind I pulled over and they went past and stopped the escort. The lads in the escort got done for no insurance/MOT/Tax etc, they then asked me to pop the bonnet of my graphite MI which they found I had a loose battery but didn't spot the MI16 engine although it was all insured correctly.

Into the police car, and they asked whether I knew these lads, I said no as I didn't, the copper said if I had known them I would have received 3 points etc, but since I didn't gave me a producer only.

36 - stopped in the 205 for taking a corner too quickly apparently, also travelling at 38 in a 30, he asked why, I said I am use to driving an elise, this was red rag to a bull, so I simply said I wasn't going to argue with him and this took the wind out of his sails, he then continued to apologise for not being able to get through to control to check the details. let on my way no points or fine.

So what is everyone elses history?

24, pissed off with a housemate and friends being noisy, at 1.30 AM, went out in the 205 and got pulled for doing 35 in a 30 and generally driving a bit quickly

took his time looking over the car and asking silly questions about it, like "is that exhaust standard" ... 2.5" Longlife ss exhaust, with a LONGLIFE sticker next to the tailpipe.... :o

stern talking down to, breathalysed, took it on the chin.

25, 205 again, keeping pace with traffic on a dual carriageway, with roundabouts ^_^ unfortunately traffic was moving along at 80

pulled over and checked details, asked why I was travelling at that pace and where I was going, sent on my way.

Lady officer said she used to have a 1.6 a few years back :D

29, not myself driving, but a friend in a recently converted 306 V6, passed an unmarked traffic car at warp speed in 3rd gear 200 yards after a roundabout, guy's comment was "that's not a 2.0 is it....."

no s*it sherlock

sent on our way after he got told off, they were quite impressed that he'd spotted the unmarked car, though we were right alongside when he did so a bit late

I have a hundred stories, but here's a few from memory or recents...

I got tugged the other day, i was doing 70ish in a National that's apparently a 50 section that approaches a 40 on a dual carriageway, yet i wasn't the only traffic doing similar speed & i was approaching/passing the officer on his motorcycle at the time, so was well aware of him. I was not however aware of the supposed 50 section, which i and a friend still think is non-existant.

He pulled me over, told me my name and then asked why i wasn't insured, to which i replied something along the lines of, "So you know my name but nothing else?" - The car isn't on the MID, but i am insured.

He turned out to be a friendly enough chap and let me on my way after taking a few details to check my policy etc, after i'd turned round and pulled up at a set of lights he then shouted at me with a smile; "and remember to put your f*cking number plate back on..." Which i thought was pleasant. :o

Then last night i was followed by a panda car that appeared from a side road for about a half a mile in heavy traffic before i turned in to my mum's cul-de-sac, followed the road all the way round to her house and parked outside, they'd followed and as they turned around in the road, stopped parallel to where i'd parked and looked at my sister and i getting out of the car for a minute, to which i waved and smiled, although was thinking 'what do you want, you can just talk to me...' but they drove off the way they came.

A year or so ago, i pulled out of the end of my road after being let out by a panda car, i indicated left as i'd forgotton something from my house so went round the block, they followed me all the way so i decided to miss my house and do another lap of the block just for fun, they still followed, so i did another lap...

I got bored so pulled up my driveway and parked, they'd followed. I sat in the car and waited until they came up to the car, wound down the window and said 'can i help you officers?' to which i then got bombarded with 'Just what the hell do you think you're doing?' of course i just explained i'd left my house and forgotten something, but had noted them distinctly following me yet not pulling me over, and was going round the block a few times as i'd just fitted a new part to the car so was making sure it was fine before venturing out too far from home...

Realising they'd then been caught out and made to look a little silly they then accused me of not wearing a seatbelt (was sat in the car still wearing a 6pt harness in a bucket seat) and being on the phone whilst driving, i then explained how difficult that would be given it was my phone that i'd forgotton; so of course now even more red-faced now then asked if i was under the influence of alcohol or drugs... 'No'... it continued like this for a few minutes with them asking me the usual questions, do you own this car, are you insured, is it taxed etc... before they were called to another job, waste of time!

Into the police car, and they asked whether I knew these lads, I said no as I didn't, the copper said if I had known them I would have received 3 points etc, but since I didn't gave me a producer only.

 This is complete and utter insanity, and just goes to show some coppers' logic.

Ohh, and i was pulled over around 18months ago and was told i'd been speeding around the local area and had just been seen doing around 90-100 down the local by-pass. As it happened i'd been at my workshop all evening and had just been to the local supermarket and was on the way home.

They argued and wouldn't believe me, wanting me to admit what i'd supposedly done, even adding 'you went past us at warp speed by the sounds of it' to which i had to reply; 'well there you go then, by the sounds of it, it's a loud car with short gear ratios and yes i'm guilty of not just putting it in 5th as soon as possible, but it does not mean i was speeding does it' I got to the point of saying; 'well i guess you'll just have to prove it then if you don't believe me, because there's no way i'm accepting admission of something i absolutely did not do' of course they couldn't, so on i went. Ridiculous.

I'm a strong believer that unfortunately at times you are victimised by ''The Law''(:o) because of what car you drive, or what you look like.

Of course not always, and i must add i've met and know some very friendly, helpful and decent nature and sound-minded police officers.

aged 21 i'd had my goodwood for about a fortnight when i was driving home from a late shift at work through a deserted industrial estate. I could of sworn it was a 40 zone.

Anyway from out of no where a fully marked range rover appears behind me with ligths blazing so i pull over and end up having a chat with the officer who reckons i was doing well over seventy. There was no camera equipment on board and only one officer so it was my word against his but going to court probably would have been a lot more painful on the wallet so i accepth the fixed penalty stating i was doing 49 which was the maximum he could put on without it having to go to court.

And thats my only time i've ever been in trouble with the law.

3 run-ins:

1. In rally car with plated diff going round tight roundabout - diff snatches the drive so at low speeds can look and sound a bit dodgy. Pulled over by cops who were following, asked a few questions and let on my way

2. 3 points for doing 72mph in a 70mph dual carriageway. Went to court, I lost (warning to anyone that thinks the 10% grace on speed exists - it doesn't if the cop thinks their equipment is accurate enough). Though in the end of the day I was speeding so can't really complain. Just another 14 months till the points are off.

3. Out in rally car in snow on knobblies on a local single-track road - went past a parked car in a lay-by that I thought was just dog walkers. Kept going at a reasonable speed then at the edge of town pulled over to check brakes/pressures/temperatures etc. Got a phonecall so answered that and a couple of minutes later after that heard sirens. Thought must be police off to a burglary or something like that but then saw police car struggling to slow up in the snow as it dawned on me - turns out it was an unmarked car I'd passed that was looking out for folk out for a play. They'd pulled out and tried (and failed) to follow me. They bought my explanation of gravel tyres, grip on snow so speed not inappropriate!!

totally agree with both those statements, although I've only ever been pulled 3 times all have been "random" stop checks although I know there doing there job but if everything comes up ok on the computer and you're not doing anything it seems like a waste of there own time as well as mine, I'm still waiting to get pulled on the way home from work though I'm amazed it hasn't already happened (working in a night club finishing at 6am) you know usual how come you're out at this time driving, breath test routine got to be overdue now.

oh god i forgot an experience of being pulled over from when i was a kid!

At the time i was at uni then had an evening job, one night i had gone home via the chippy and had them on the passenger seat. I was driving up a large hill and pretty much letting the torque of my mighty 1.7D fiat uno pull me up it as i was munching chips.

I then noticed the flashing blue light in my rear view mirror so i pulls over and the copper comes across and explains i'd been pulled because i was driving "suspiciously slow"! explained i was on way home from work feeling tired so taking things steady which he was ok with and let me go but not before nicking several chips.

Tw@t!

Sometimes playing stupid helps.

Just after buying the 205 I acidentally entered a bus lane and I was waiting at the traffic lights. When I realised and I started reversing, a police car stopped me and asked me if I know why I had been stopped :D

I told him exactly what happened and when I realised what I had done I started reversing, the road was empty and I only needed to reverse 30m or so to get out of the bus lane and turn.

So he fined me for being on a bus lane, asked me the typical questions if the car is mine etc. checked it on the system and also searched the car/me if I remember correctly giving me a paper that I was searched afterwards.

If I played the stupid I would have probably been OK but no, being honest got me the ticket.

By the way does the police have the right to search the car/you?! Not physically but asking to show what you have in your pockets and looking into the car.

I find this really insulting and violating one's personal privacy.

Got home from getting a take away omelette and chips from a local cafe one day to find they hadn't put in the chips, so jumped back in the 205 and dashed back to the shop. Starving and pi..ed off got my chips and rapidly took off down a side street. A police car was parked in another side street as I passed them at around double the speed limit and with good reason pulled me over. I told them that I knew I was going a bit fast but I could see there were no pedestrians down the road and there were no cars parked on the road so I knew it was fairly safe but that was no excuse. They gave me a stern but fair talking to and let me on my way. Proved to me that some police officers are human after all.

In a mates car (Astra) in a McDonalds car park, we saw a police car so changed his blue sidelights back to standard - just in case. It didn't help that after all that we were leaving the car park with the police car behind us and my mate, for some unknown reason, decided to go through a red light. The police pulled us over and got him out of the car to tell him off. Luckily the police gave him the benefit of the doubt and said he had gone through an amber light but I don't think he did himself any favours when the police asked him what an amber light meant and he replied speed up and see if you can make it in time. Police shouted at him for another minute or so but then let him on his way!

Before I start, I want to say I am not condoning speeding and I am not particularly proud of some of the stuff that I have done in the past.

Two situations that I still think about.

At the age of 18 I was caught on the M11 doing 101.3, obviously a court job. Weirdly the case before me was quite similar, same type of car (Golf GTi's), both students, both on the M11 doing over 100. The chap ahead of me gave some cock and bull story about needing to feed some horses and got one month ban and £180 fine, I fessed up that I had no reason or excuse and got a two week ban and a £115 fine.

About two years ago I was on the new bit of the A505 before it hits the A1M, nice quiet road, the car a little way ahead is going quite well, so I keep up, we both end up doing 140 for a mile or so although a good bit of distance between us.

We both get onto the A1M whereby we hit thick traffic, I am in lane 2, he is in lane 1. I pull along side to see who I was spiring with and it's two uniformed rozzers in an unmarked car. I almost s*it myself and they both turn to look at me and just beam with a smile. I drove very slowly the rest of the journey.

They pulled me in Surrey late one evening and said "nothing wrong with your driving, you just seem to be going a bit carefully, have you taken something or drunk anything? I said no and explained i was looking for my girlfriends house as decided on a spur of the moment thing to travel up there one evening.

They gave me directions to where i needed to be and let me on my way.

Probably stopped me because i was driving a Gold Saxo. bling bling.

on a slightly similar vein but off tangent (so actually probably no where close to your story!)

I really hate it when people slow down to 60 and refuse to pass those traffic enforcement 4x4's on the motorway. For christs sake their not old bill so just pass the buggers. I've got no qualms with passing coppers on the motorway when they are doing 60 in the inside lane either.

Far too many to list, specially in my early years of driving! Here's the significant ones:

18 - In my 205 XS, SP30 on the infamous Farnborough dual carriageway. It was the first time I'd driven that road since passing my test, I was clocked at 40mph because I thought the limit was 40. :o

19 - In my 205 XS, SP50 on the M3, was late at night and I'd decided to go to Fleet services for a BK. Was driving at around 80 in lane 1 when a car came up from behind and sat literally inches from my rear bumper. I thought "who's this twat?" and accelerated, the car stuck there so I kept going, only for the blue lights to eventually come on! Was clocked at 97mph, had my license revoked so had to take my test again. Lesson learnt!

22 - In my 205 Mi16 driving out of Hatfield on the A414, an officer accused me of running a red light. I'd passed the unmarked Skoda Octavia a few hundred yards before a big roundabout, then a mile or so after he came screaming up behind me with lights blazing so I pulled over. After some condescending questions about how traffic lights operate he accused me of running the red light on the roundabout, which was complete bollocks as the light went amber about half a second before I went through! I explained that I'd seen him in the left hand lane, sat in traffic a few hundred yards before the sharp turn on to the roundabout, and that there's no way he could have seen me go through. Stuck to my guns and said he'd have to provide video evidence, he gave me a ticket that I challenged on the spot and never heard anything back from. :)

23 - Got a ticket for parking on the last 0.5m of a zig-zag line at a crossing outside my mate's house, which was fair enough. Filled the ticket in, coughed up the fine and sent my license off, explaining on the form that I'd lost the counterpart. Received a letter from the court later saying that I had failed to submit my license and got a penalty of 6 points and a £500 fine!! I appealed and the case went back to court, I ticked the box on the court form saying I wouldn't be present, then heard nothing for months. I eventually phoned the court and after a lot of searching the guy explained that the case was dismissed because I didn't turn up! So because of pathetic clerical errors I had a massive fine and 6 points for a f***ing parking offence!

That was my last run-in with the law and I haven't been troubled since, mostly because I'm invisible in the Mondeo!

Never had any speeding tickets to this day, but have had a few lucky escapes.

Most notably, several years ago with Anthony in the passenger seat, we decided to take the 205 for a spin with its new Maniflow/Miles manifold & exhaust. It was about 10pm, weekday, dry/summer, and nobody to be seen. Belt it round the roundabout (the LOO 'about) at the bottom of my road onto the locally known 'drag' or Lower Earley bypass and nail the Mi. It was only when I started braking for the upcoming roundabout that I noticed headlights behind me, and when on the roundabout noticed it was plod. Headed up towards the local Asda, and hey-ho, the blues & twos came on. Pulled over, and prepared to bend over for I was doing 120ish on a National.

Got back into the car where Anthony expected to be driven straight to the plod station. But he was shocked and called me all names under the sun when I told him I got a warning. It was a boggo Astra, with single plod in it. No recording facility or speed radar gizmo so no proof of my speed. All he said was, 'I was giving it everything and you were disappearing from me - slow down'......

Very, very lucky boy that day.

At 18 (now aged 37) I was directed to pull over by a policeman manning a road trap, and overshot the turning due to removing headphones. So received an SP30 and fixed fine. Reason for speeding attending a motoring matter in court, that later led to me receiving another 7 points for allowing someone to drive my car with no insurance (very stupid I know, no lectures please).

Twelve months later received another court appearance for speeding, and that was it I collected enough points to receive a six month ban, and some £60 fine.

All well behaved until 1997 then got another SP30.

Been good ever since

windows

Overall I belive I was fairly treated in all occasions

However we (the family) went on holiday to comeback to a speeding offence from a Gatso we advised the police that the car was insured for both my wife and I to drive we had shared the driving along said piece of road and did not notice any camera flashes as the people carrier had blacked windows and we did not keep a diary of who used it as it is not a company car. We advised them if theycan supply a photo clearly identifying the driver we would be happy to send the licence to the DVLA pluse the fine money. The picture arrived neatly displaying the rear of our car, but no way of telling who was the driver, with one more letter back to the dvla they agreed to ony fine us as they could not determine the driver. Result to this day my wife still protests her innocence until proven beyond all doubt that she was the one!

Only trouble I ever had was 2 years ago, I'd been driving for 4 years with no hassle then on my way to work in my 1995 corsa (which was my pride and joy and I'd owned it since I started driving :o ) I got distracted and stacked it into a line of cars stopped at the traffic lights

Needless to say the police took me to court and I got 4 points and a £200 fine for driving without due care and attention!

I leave a much bigger gap between me and the car in front now.. Although if it hadn't happened I wouldn't have my Xs now, which is my new pride and joy!

Only the one, 62 in a 50 on the Evesham bypass. but I swear its a 60 and drive that road once a week! That was in a merc sprinter work van. Despite what people say newer sprinters are slllooowww! Never got a ticket in the Rallye!

That bypass is pig bloody central though, and to be fair i pay a lot more attention now. Almost got away with it as my company lost the documents but they sent a reminder :)
