Mi On Bike Carbs

Here is a picture of my induction set up on my MI.

 

To get the correct length of inlet track I've had to alter trumpets to fit.

 

I now have a total length of 390mm.

 

I know this is not an ideal set up but I got it all cheap and the maniflod is a bogg one and the runners are equal I'm just concerned about the angle of the inlet after the carbs, Basically the angle of the trumpets.

 

The carbs on there own point up the way so as the floats sit level with the ground so I've had to alter the trumpets so as they point down toward the grill to keep it all under the bonnet.

 

Does anyone know if this likely to affect fuelling and cause any issues ?

I´m not a guru so this is sort of a guess, but you´ll definitely lose some power. If they were throttle bodies you would only lose the power. The bigger problem however is the turbulence the kink is causing in the throats of the carbs. The pressure fluctuations caused by turbulence might cause unsteady and uneven fueling at some revs.

Put it this way, and excuse my use of a cliche or two; it's not ideal is it?

 

When you buy cheap you usually end up buying twice.

 

I did this making my own manifold on my 2.2, at least with R1 throttle bodies rather than carbs, and got what might seem a respectable 196bhp.

 

But then put a larger set of bodies mated properly to a proper, well designed and fabricated manifold - with no s*itty silicon hose joiners on - and gain over 40bhp, making 240bhp instead, same ECU, rollers and mapper.

 

You do the math as they say. The extra effort and cost to make what you have fit, let alone work really could or ought to have gone on a better set up.

 

Apologies for being blunt, but I've been there like many others on here before, and it's been covered in topics many times.

 

I admire the initiative and effort as people did with me, but you're cheating your engine and yourself really.

Thanks for the input

 

With the bike carbs and recurved dizzy the car still made 140+ atw but this was on a inlet tract of 280mm as opposed to my new length, I just wonder if I'm going to have made thing worse with longer trumpet set up ?

 

The carbs and dizzy will need to stay for now until I can afford a good throttle body managment kit.
