I couldnt let them go so took a trip out to get them. When we got back I decided to try and see if they would fit behind the smr's currently on the car, no they wouldnt so got some spacers the next day from work and tried again...... Wheel would clear but bolts too short! So I ordered a set of alloy 15mm hubcentric spacers and longer bolts. Took the car over to Olvomiamis place took try and get it all together, all went wwell and bolted up fine and quickly, we had to get some imperial sockets for the bleed nipples also, tried bleeding and couldnt get a decent pedal! A quick txt to Spiky and he suggested we use the power bleeder whilst holding the pedal down as he had the same problem with his ap's, stone the crows the pedal came instantly and is the best I've had in the 205! Due to the spacers and it already having 309 track the front fibreglass arches needed trimming but after 5mins with a grinder I have no more issues! Once warm they are very good and I now have confidance in my brakes which is what I was wanting so its anothe rjob crossed off the list.

As the spacer has given sufficient clearance I have decided to use the speedlines that me and Olly just refurbed.

Glad they all sorted :)

Quite like the car with those arch's I'd level it out though seems low on rear?

Think some of it is to do with the guy who put the arches on originally put the dirvers side about 10mm lower than the nearside. Always thought it was too low at the back but if you look at the sill line it looks lik there is a slight rake angle to the front. Think it is slightly too low all round really, well it is at least for my current suspension set up! Bump steers quite bad!

I took the carbs off again in the view that my missfire must be down to the pump jet piston being seized, however as soon as I removed them and checked the pump jets are working A1! Checked inside and they are clean and clear! So i checked valve clearances and actuation, both fine! So then i borrowed a bore scope from a friend and had a look inside. There was quite a carbon build up inside the problem cylinder inlet port and valve throat, putting the valve at full lift and looking around the periphery of the valve i saw some marks and irregularity's i was not happy about.

So the engine quickly went from this.....

To this....

SAM_0390.jpg

On closer inspection when removed a foreign object was present on the valve seat and face! Looks like metal! Strange how this didnt show up on the compression checks but looks promising that I have found the cause of the miss fire!

I have wanted to change a few things with the head for ages so now is the time, mainley big valves and re shaping ports.

Inlet manifold before....

SAM_0391.jpg

And 90% complete...

After having a look at the head after a strip down I could see no reason for the miss fire other than the balance tube between the two inlet manifold sections was leaking, so I blocked the holes with chemical metal and ported the inlet manifolds and inlet ports in the head to a differant shape, hopefully an improvement! Anyway I took the head to Don Loughlins for a wash and check over, he could not find anything wrong with the head but made anouther set of shims to make sure they are spot on. So I reassembled everything.

SAM_0471.jpg

Ran a few revs through it and tried snap throttle openings and it does still missfire! I will try a road test at the weekend but I have literally done everything I can now so I will have to take it to Aldons to be plugged in!

Also Fitted the group A bronze gear linkage bushes.

Managed to get a couple of cosmetic jobs sorted yesterday.

Dtm mirrors fitted, always liked the look of them on 205's. However visability is now at an all time low! Weigh 450 grams a side opposed to the standard mirrors 850 grams.

SAM_0516.jpg

SAM_0517.jpg

Also decided that it was time to tidy up the manky interior, so with help from Olly and Rich, some thinners, sand paper and hammerite gloss white aerosol.......

SAM_0518.jpg

Looks so much better now, few runs and the colour isn't a match but looks a hell of a lot better than before! When I have the cage installed I will do the front but pointless until then.

Got a few more cosmetic jobs done last night. Firstly the previous owners attempts at pinstripes had faded and started to peel away so decided to remove them.

SAM_0519.jpg

SAM_0520.jpg

And found the strut brace off the 309, elongated the holes a little and fits like a glove, paintwork was scabby and peeling sodecided to prep it and give it a few coats of hammerite white.

All scabby!

SAM_0521.jpg

Prepped

SAM_0522.jpg

Will get it painted tomorrow.

Bought two more tyres at the weekend so managed to get the lighter and refurbed speedlines fitted. Went for Yokohama Parada spec 2 again to match the decent fronts I already had.

SAM_0599.jpg

Looks a lot better now I think.

Looks much nicer with the Rallye wheels on it but if you need bigger brakes then needs must! I had to ditch my S2 steelies when I went to bigger brakes too, was a tough job.

What a pita about the misfire though.. you sure it's not something simple like dizzy cap or leads? What makes you suspect the carbs are at fault?

Also..

SAM_0218.jpg

Next on the failures list is going to be those exhaust hangers! I don't expect they'll last more than a couple of track days before they snap off. You need a larger welded area (hence the 2-3" of bar welded to the box) to support it, those wont survive as they are.

If you read the thread you can see i dont run a dizzy and that I have changed all leads, coil, crank sensor, plugs, pump, tank, lines, pressure reg, gaskets. The carbs appear to work fine but cant really see what it can be as I have changed everything, again all well documented.

Exhaust has held so far, if it breaks I'll fix it.

I must have missed that bit then! What management are you running?

It will break, sorry to be negative but it's just a matter of time! When you come to fix it it'd be worth giving it a bit more support rather than just welding it straight back on as it was. Unless you like welding.. :P

It runs Weber alpha management so I have no software to look into it myself, that is why I have tried everything I can but all that is left now is to get it down to Aldon automotive, hook a lambda reader up plug the ecu in and see what is happening.

Yeah, was great to go out in yours! Shame the sat nav was being a divvy as we were all rushed. One day when I cure the misfire you can have a gander at it. Since I went out in yours it has made me hanker for a 16v build!

Atmo all the way for me in a 205, for me its not all about outright power. If that was the case I would have an evo or scooby. Like lively chuckable hot hatches.

After a wash yesterday, The front bumper looks manky because the previous owner filled the recess with filler and now some has fallen out! New bumper will be purchased soon.

No fuel tank made no differance, actually a mate of mine cleaned the carbs again thiroughly and the missfire has gone! Just needs setting up now for the new style head! Was just crap in the carbs from the original temporary pump! Should be fine with a good set up.

Love your car but im in love with induction noise too much, although your charger does have a certain charm! Need to get my suspension sorted over the winter aswell, after going out in yours it has ruined mine for me! Need bilstiens and bad!
