Admittedly throttle bodies dont have the screws in question etc but I have the carbs and they work great just a minor hiccup. Think loctite will give me a piece of mind though!

Update.

Right, been having loads of running issues with the car recently, on the fuelling side and the bottom engine mount fork broke! So I fitted a new facet red top pump.

SAM_0227.jpg

Still had issues so I put this down to the pressure reg being for high-low pressure and not using the tank return, a call to aldon automotive confirmed this so bought this adjustable reg on their advice.

SAM_0243.jpg

Still wasnt much better so I stripped the carb again and changed the needle valve to the original weber one, cleaned the plugs and bolted back together....... power again but slight miss here and there. Changed the plugs and miss has cleared although it still hesitates accelerating from down low so it will need more adjusting but it gets better all the time.

Engine mount.

Went to custom body repair to do this as I dont have a welder.

SAM_0237.jpg

As it came off. Oooops.

SAM_0236.jpg

Welded.

SAM_0239.jpg

Ground off ready for paint.

SAM_0240.jpg

Didnt get pics of it painted but dropped a few coats of satin black on and bolted it all back up. Seems fine so far.

Right anouther update!

I made it to mallory after many late nights and help from my mates, was working on it putting the drivers seat in and bonnet pins till 11pm the night before after working all day. We decided to trailor it there as my low down missfire was still very present and if it broke on track I wouldnt have to worry. Was raining all day and had only just been re-surfaced so was greasy at times.

Few pics.

Round the outside we go!

Car was a real trooper although it had a terrible low down missfire that really killed the power and with a full tank it would stutter up top. Drove around the problems the best I could and only got passed once, by my mate in his evo at the hairpin when it was missfiring and lost all power so not so bad. Had some great banter with herman and andrei ( nearly hit the back of herman after a bmw span in front of him so had to take full evasive manouvers as we both locked u!) Got loads of things to change before I go again so im going to be really busy in the up coming months, oh and the starter knackered after my last session refusing to work so we had to bump it to get it on the trailor lol!

Another update.

After Mallory the starter wouldnt turn the engine over! So after leaving the car for a couple of weeks I decided enough was enough and to re-wire the car so that I have working gauges and eliminate any faults to do with having the wiring nightmare it was. So a friend of mine had a scrap gti phase 1, He allowed me to remove the gauge binacle and interior loom and rear lights (mine were cracked), advertised for a phase 1 engine loom and brumster came up trumps for that. So I sat down and removed everything associated with the ecu plug from the engine loom.

SAM_0335.jpg

To this, saving 800 grams already.

SAM_0336.jpg

When I started I had no idea what I was doing with wiring or the schematic drawings in the haynes so was a real challenge. With help from the usaul gang Olly,Leigh and Rich we managed to strip the engine and interior looms out, fit the GTI ones and then cut out anything not needed, I also got rid of the heater matrix and piping (8kilos). After Leigh showed me the basics of how to read the schematic drawings I was away and had some time off work to get it sorted. After anouther late night with Olly and Rich it was ready to start but too late at night to fire so left it till the morning. No start! Took the starter off and went to Newtown road motors to test the starter and yep it was knackered. Onwards to work and I crossed the bosch number over to a valeo unit.

SAM_0342.jpg

Bonus new valeo unit was 2.3 kilos lighter!!!!

Fitted it and fired no problem, after tracing all the sensor wires and fitted new wiring for some of the I fired it up and had all but the oil pressure gauge working, So I ordered another and will fit it over the bank holiday. I didnt get any pics of the interior work in progress but there is so much gone from the loom now its unreal. Also took the car over to custom body repair and set about removing the headlining and other bits of trim so will post pics in the next few days. I also wanted to try my front grill satin black like I did on the 309.

SAM_0335.jpg

Looks quite good I think, will stand out a bit more on track now!

SAM_0344.jpg

Im doing loads of things to it in the upcoming months so excited that the car is coming together nicely and looking more complete.

Okay another update.

Took the car over to Olly's house today to fit then 15" wheels and finish tidying the dash and remove the last of the lower section.

As it was on 14" wheels.

SAM_0345.jpg

And now on 15" wheels.

SAM_0346.jpg

They are the old smr's off the 309 at the moment but I have a set of speedlines ready to be refurbed and painted white so will get those done in the next couple of weeks.

And this is how the dash stands at the moment, nice and light!

SAM_0347.jpg

Also had a few chaffing issues on the test drive which I will get sorted with a trip to Custom body repair, and as I pulled into Olly's close the engine mount fork snapped again completely so had to be very gentle on the drive home. Going to get another fork and reinforce it see if that holds this time.

Out of interest, why the move to 15's? Looks mint on the steelies :)

Moving to 15's so I can have bigger brakes and more contact patch. Will keep the 14's incase I ever manage to go sprinting.

Ah, big brakes, sure - only reason I can't get 14's on mine - makes sense :(

It just doesnt really stop that well at the moment and gives me little confidence in breaking distances so need to fit my big disc kit.

I'd rather go for a smaller 266mm setup, or a 4 pot and keep the 14's :)

Right another update.

Got a new lower mount fork from Baz(thanks) so sprayed it and fitted it last night, alot less vibration so hopefully will last with a little give now it has a standard small torque bush.

Prepped and ready for paint.

SAM_0348.jpg

And ready to fit.

SAM_0349.jpg

Then went over to olvomiamis house to use his car port to spray the plastic rear quater trims white.

Prepped.

SAM_0350.jpg

Painted.

SAM_0351.jpg

Paint turned out nasty, orange peel and runs galore due to confined space to move the can and trying to cover the reaction. However it doesnt look to bad unless up close and its good enough for a track car. Will get some second hand ones and do them again later. The only reason I dint remove them is because the previous owner had bonded them on! Next week I will fit the alloy sunroof blanking plate.

I'm not surprised the badges turned out crap. Why didn't you remove them to do the job properly?

Oops, that'll teach me not to skim read before replying

They were never going to turn out right in those circumstances though. You know what they say - if a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing right ;) Hopefully they haven't used too much bondage ( :D) on the badges then, as they'll be a 'mare to get off.

I knew i was doomed when it started to rain and had to drive over to miamiolvos to do it! After I'd primed. Doesnt look that bad today and its not going to bother me too much, and they are really sealed on so sod it! Its done now lol

Are the hi-specs any good? At the moment the brakes are a bit pants, too much pedal travel still and not enough braking force.

What front brakes are you currently running? From what I can tell in the pictures, it looks like a 306 ATE setup?

If so, in my opinion they're a bit rubbish when old/worn and I'm not surprised that you're finding them somewhat underwhelming, much like most 1.6 GTi calipers these days.

I would personally say that there's no need to get anything fancy/expensive - 1.9 GTi calipers in good order together with some decent pads (e.g DS2500 or 1155's) and standard 247mm disks will cope with most things you can throw at them on a lightweight 205, giving positive confidence inspiring stopping power that lasts lap after lap. Even Ferodo Premier pads will take a surprising amount of stick and stop really well.

They are saxo vts calipers with brembo discs and ferrodo premier pads. I have 266mm discs from my saxo vts hi-spec big disc conversion, what calipers fit those without using a spacer? Would that be a good upgrade?

Spent last night at custom body repair removing my sunroof.

After removing the glass and surround, had a bit of a mare with a few bolts but not too bad.

SAM_0354.jpg

Some of the crap removed.

SAM_0353.jpg

And the new alloy panel which I painted last week.

Used bond and seal as well to hopefully prevent leaks. Colour match is pretty good also. :P
