These might help;

They are for 8v Jetronic though which has three wires from the ignition module plug going to the dizzy flylead so an Mi will be different.

These are the red, green & black in the above picture.

using standard mi16 set-up with sensor on flywheel

Ok. , the CAS sensor then ..

need to connect this wires from the CAS onto the ECU

CASsensorloom-1.jpg

..and signal/triggering wire from the ECU to the ignition amp. will be this green one + bridged white

Motronic-1.jpg

Anyway , pin No5 is "input positive" and pin No6 is "input negative" ..

so would you connect pin 5 &6 to the ecu or can i just connect the input positive as i only have 2 wires to connect to on the bx loom and was assuming one was for the rev counter?

cheers

Well , in the case of Motronic 1.3 management , there's just one wire coming from the ECU which triggers the amp and it's this the green one No. 101 ... dunno on which pin it goes on the ECU side though .. check the wiring diagram for that ..

Try by connecting just this pin No.5 with triggering wire from the ECU , and try it out .. no spark - add bridged wire across the pin No.5 and No.6 like the white one on the pic ..

Rev counter signal goes on the coil , but , can pull the revs from the ignition amp. if you like .. if it's a ignition apm. with 7pins , pin No.7 is tacho out signal ..

tryed to get it started but sure i have something wrong here pics below where am i going wrong

1)blue on top left connected to starter motor

2) yellow on top right from bx loom connected to (76) fuel pump wire

3)forget other brown&blue wires these are for sensors but shouldn't thick red on 6pin brown plug (wire 2) be connected to something?

th_Photo0112.jpg

and then im left with these wires in the bay coming from the bx loom

do it need to cut into the bx loom or do i just remove the outer plastic casing and soldier to the bx loom wires from the gti (in car) loom? i know the wires to join ie fuel pump (76) to yellow and blue to shunt box but bit unsure of where should join the others in?

cheers

There's some pics in my project thread you might find quite useful. The ign 12v is connected to the far end of the loom as is the main 12v (put a terminal on the cable to plug into the shunt box) I suggest fitting an inline fuse here too. Tacho connection is joined in the same area as the ign 12v, fuel pump is connected in the drivers footwell to a terminal on the two brown plugs I think. This isn't the only way to do it but it's how mine is done.

seem to be at a complete loss i have had to connect the fuel pump to the switch live (2A) as the yellow on the bx loom is completely dead so i now have power to fuel pump and starter turning over but still no spark even when i run a live straight to the coil from the switch live?

Start at the beginning and re-check everything, as you've clearly messed something up - that thick red wire (wire 2/2A) on the smaller brown plug is the ignition switched live, which the ECU/loom won't work without.

think i've figured out whats wrong the coil plug has 2 reds coming off and a yellow and i've een connecting the red at the end of the coil plug up to the yellow from the bx loom but surely the power needs to go to the ignition amp before the coil?

have power going to coil and ignition amp yet still no skark even when i try different combi of connecting the different wires up to the wires comingfrom the loom seems to get no trigger for a spark even tho the ecu has power

On the 8v loom the "trigger wire" comes via the coil 12v ignition switched feed iirc which looking at the BX haynes manual wiring diagram for the Ml4.1 the BX does the same.

Doesn't the ecu get it power diectly from the shunt box with no switched feed etc & your fuel pump feed wire will originate from the fuel pump relay not the ecu afaik.

Have you got the correct BX wiring diagram to use for doing all this?

I have merged all the topics you have running in this section with regards to your problems so all answers & help is kept in one.

Please don't start a seperate tiopic everytime you have a question about your ongoing conversion.

cheers graham and sorry about that

well now i have a spark have power to fuel pump so is getting fuel have checked the ht lead position and everything is where it should be but still no luck and now for some reason the indicators start to flash when cranking over? :o

the reason it wasn't getting spark was that i had connected the black 3 pin plug that goes to ignition amp to the one coming out of the loom from the ECU and it needed to be connected straight to the sensor on the flywheel end so i have done away with the thick yellow wire as this is not needed now as the car gets its power for fuel pump straight off the 12+volt (2A) switch live, the ecu is powered throught the shunt box so thats fine
