Previous Issues And Now More Things :s

Recommended Posts

Afternoon,

i havent had a chance to get it to a garage and get the overfuelling looked at, but its started on another set of things creeping me out

sometimes pulling out in 1st it makes this rubbing sound/shudder, its not gratting on anything as its not lowered

AND

the gearbox feels ropey as hell, hasnt felt like this before, going to replace the oil and linkages soon as ive got another pay check in

AND

trying to diagnose what the issues area, it makes a knock/jolt when dropping the clutch or just a burst of gas

Im thinking some of the mounts? the top engine on it fine, not sure how to check the others?

Please

its scaring me and i need to sort it

lower engine mount will cause these issues, simple to check, try and rock the engine back and forth.

also to mention its joltey as hell, like in low revs is so lumpy, i guess as a result of overfueling. but god knows whats causing that

I'd put my money on a knackered driveshaft or loose gearbox bolts, it can give all of the above symptoms!

the rear bolt is very common for coming loose and as said can cause all kinds of knocks.

it also sounds like it could be misfiring very hard to diagnose problems over tinternet best thing is get it to a garage and see what they say is wrong

Gave it a rock at the top, seems solid, i was thinking gear box mount? your thoughts?

these going to be the bolts that attach the box to the engine?

yeh, regarding misfiring gona try and do a few things to it, check the injectors ohms again, get some engine flush into it, sort out the emmisions then just get it up on ramps see if anything becomes aparent

this will probs take the rest of the week as im flat out with uni work for abit :) will keep posting on here when i know more

thanks all for your input

Regards the mount, he means the lower mount at the rear bottom of the block, jack the car up and use a pry bar between the subframe and engine to check for a worn mount. I don't believe in those engine additives/flush personally!

Yes the gearbox bolts that hold the gearbox onto the engine, there are about 4 or 5 of them, get the torque wrench out and check them.

The misfire, I would just eliminate things one by one by replacing suspect parts with good spares or new, one at a time, things to check would be the ignition amp, coil, spark plugs, dizzy cap, fuel pump, fuel filter etc. Problems like this can be tricky but you'll get there!

i think positive news? there was a tiny tiny tiny little hissing noise from the hose from the inlet mani to the master cylinder, new jubilee clip on it and it seems to not overfuel or stink anymore. bloody surprised but cautiously optimistic :o

engine mounts: got under it today, the lower engine mount seems quite deformed, like the little circles in the rubber are all bent out of shape. im guessing this is gone and needs replacing? on that note are group N or A going to give noticeable difference on the road?

the gear box mount seems fairly ok, i took the battery out and looked at it from the top, seems to be in reasonable nick, if the lower mounts not doing its job is it going to increase deterioration of the gearbox mount? worth replacing whilst im there?

gearbox: What with the engine mounts being abit funny and with the current issues with first, is ti worth just getting a new box or specific parts for it, im very concious its done alot of miles and probably with little or no maintenance

Cheers John

Uprated engine mounts will give you alot of vibration through the cabin, if you're not fussed by that then they are noticably better.

You could just change the lower mount to an uprated one and leave the others standard if they look ok.

BBM do them here --> http://www.bakerbm.com/205.php?data=engkitn205

You would want the "lower engine bush", £26 +vat I think.

I find it a bit strange that an air leak at the servo hose made it overfuel, I just thought it would affect your brakes. But it lets more air into inlet manifold I suppose so makes sense. Either way, result! :o

Get the lower engine mount replaced first and renew the gearbox oil, this should improve gearchanges, also check if you have play in the gearlinkages/ You can get OEM pug parts from Vospers (Ford) at Marsh Mills

there is play in one of the linkages for sure, good call, will head out that way and sort them out, dealt with vospers pug down union street area previous, was a fair mission to say the least.

I find it helps if you have the part numbers for items required before you go in an order, otherwise its like swimming in treacle :glare:
