Engine Swap

Recommended Posts

ORB

Hi folks, as much as I love my 1.9, I love 16v power too!

I have been offered a Xsara VTS 1998 on an S reg for not bad money.

I have done a couple of MI16 swaps and I find them quite simple. But I have never done a GTI-6 swap.

What exactly is involved other than whipping the engine out and sticking in the new one?

Do I need to alter radiator position?

Do I need to do anything daft with the loom/ECU?

What other wiring is involved?

I am not 100% that I am gonna go ahead and do this, but I a, going to see how cheap I can get the car tomorrow before I make a decision.

Obviously I am aware of the other bits that I can utilise from the car, but what box would you use? The 5 speed from the Xsara or my current 1.9?

not done one of these yet myself but had a few mi16, have a feeling the exhaust manifold needs some work and that you will need the ecu kept unlocked but dont think theres major work/cost involved if you haveboth cars. also look in to the thermostat adaptor plate as know this needs to be changed

BBM make a stat adapter to use a 8V stat take off., and someone, pretty sure it was QEP, made a exhaust manifold angle plate to use a GTI6 exhaust manifold. Apart from that its quite straight forward, but i dont know much about the wiring as i used carbs and megajolt.
