Non Peugeot Topic - Ford Fiesta Van Technical Help Required

Recommended Posts

Huggy bear

Hi- as everyone has been so helpful on answering questions relating to my 205 I was wondering if any of you experts out there can help me with a minor but irriatating problem with my diesel fiesta van.

It's 1995 mk3 fiesta van with 80k on the clock (ex bt van), it runs and drives fine and has been well cared for, the problem is that if it is left for a while ( any thing longer than a few hours) it will never start first time - Always does it on the second or third attempt but it is very annoying and something I'd really like to fix .

Probably best answered on the Ford forums I guess but thought I'd try you chaps first

Cheers

J

Does it take a while to start?

Sounds like its got an air leak in the fuel system.

If you try priming it before starting does it improve?

could be a number of things:

air leak into a fuel line, tired/dead glow plugs, worn out injectors.

thanks for the response- I obviously wait for the glow plug light to go out and when I turn the key it just turns over, once I have it started (normally second or third attempt) it will be fine. I can stop/start it as many times as I like, from then on it will start on the key first time everytime, unless it has sat for a several hours and cooled down. Not serious I know but rather frustrating - Was last serviced Jan 2010 inclusive of glow plugs !

Thanks again

Sound like the fuel is draining back to the tank. Try fitting an in-line one way valve in to the pipe that feeds the fuel filter and see if that improves it (closer to the filter the better)
