I'm sure it has more of a technical name, but bassically I (well really my daughter) cannot get any hot air into the car. It is a 98 1.3 OHV if this helps.

Now I have checked the thermostat and this works fine, given all the pipes a good squeeze to make sure there is no trapped air in the system, but still no joy. It is like either the dial on the dash has packed up or the water pump has stopped working, although I was under the impression that when a water pump breaks it just leaks.

Thanks in advanced

Jeremy

I remember when heating went on my '94 Mondeo , there was an square box beneath the heater reg. knob which i had to replace .. was some kind of resistor box , or something like that ...

Dunno if it's the same system on a KA though ..

The most common thing on the KA's and Fiestas of that era is a heater control valve that sits down by the bulkhead (engine side), this failing would cause this. Eithar that or heater matrix?

My gaffer at work has a fiesta from around that time and on that there was something under the wiper area that had four pipes going to it and a plug on it. His was always hot so he bought a new one and it worked fine for a week before staying on cold. So he refitted the old one :D

Edit: as above

As above, they have a habit of sticking in the opposite to what you want hot in summer/cold in winter. Not a bad job just a bit fiddly.

Best to buy the part from Ford as there is some cheap crap ones about. We changed ours it lasted a few months and failed again, the Ford part lasted 3 years +

As above quite possibly the electronic valve thats mounted on the bulkhead, put the heater in the middle and you should hear the valve clicking, opening and closing, to maintain temp if its working correctly.

Yup, as above - almost certainly the heater valve. Had to replace one on my mothers 02 plate Fiesta for her a year or two back, and it's a common part on many 90's and 00's Ford's

Can't speak for the Ka, but certainly on a Fiesta it's a very quick and simple job to change - if you're quick, you don't even need to drain the cooling system. Part is pretty cheap too from motorfactors, eBay or whatever as well.

Thanks for all the help. Looked on the net and it seems they are anything from £20 upwards plus P&P, and also a guide taken from the Ford workshop manual on how to do the job.

Reason for edit. Ment to ask with it not working will it cause problems ie overheating of the engine.

No, the car will just think you have the heating on cold.

All the info covered above, but do not bother with motor factor or ebay cheap valve as they are crap and will fail again soon. Buy the proper gen Ford valve.

Some motor factors can supply Febi parts, the valves they do are the exact spec of the original ones and are a lot cheaper.

Might be worth looking into? :D

To keep a nice neat KA heater thread:

Does anyone know how the fan direction dial works - electric/cable/rod?

My girlfriends KA heater only blows through the screen, was bloody freezing in there yesteday.

are u talking about getting the aitr to comethrough the vents, just turn the dial to the vent symbol. if its come out at the back , take the heater control panel out and behind the panel there is a white cog that turns when u turn the dial.
