Bonnet Hinge Bolt Snapped

Recommended Posts

discodeek

as the title says, the bolt that looks like it goes through the inner wing, has snapped- so i have to push

the hinge back so the bonnet shuts correctly.

is there an easy way to get to this bolt, or to apply a fix ?

thanks guys

Either a flexi/90 degree attachment for a drill, then tap out and insert new stud

or

flat back and weld new stud on.

flat back and weld new stud on.

That's how I've fixed any of then that have sheared off on mine & even replaced those that haven't with a suitable stud instead.

This happened to me but I didnt have a 90 degree drill to drill out the snapped bolt! So I welded a M6 nut onto the inner wing directly over the snapped bolt. Not the best way of doing it but its still going strong after a couple of years.

With the bolts that haven't sheared off I replaced them with some M6 studs from a local hardware / bolt stockists & cut the smaller threaded off the stud for the hole with the remains of the old bolt still in.

Mine have always sheared flush so I cleaned the area as best I can to get it flat & then held the stud in place while it was tacked to hold it before getting the best weld around it we could but its not easy due to crappy access.
