New Toy....

Evening all,

It's been rather a long while since I have been on the forum as have had a mega, mega busy few months and certain circumstances changed which meant that fuel economy and running costs were no longer really a major concern. I have wanted a Celica Gt4 for a very, very long time and finally bit the bullet and thought why not treat myself :)

002-1.jpg

Obviously a very different cup of tea to the 205 but I absolutely love it. Having never really experienced boost or 4 wheel drive before it took some getting used to. The clutch took some time as well as it's got an exedy race clutch which is pretty much either off or on. It is one hell of a car though it hanles superbly and is an extremely fast car.

My only complaint about it is that it doesn't have the trade mark GTFOUR rear wing but that will be sorted and the TRD sunstrip needs removing rather sharpish. It's currently circa 280-300bhp which is more than enough and to be fair it rarely ever gets the right foot treatment as it is just unnecessary and as soon as it's on boost it DRINKS petrol, pretty much watch the fuel guage go down.

It is Jap and a bit of a tonka toy but it is quite simply fantastic, certainly gets a lot of attention.

Hope everyone is well, Seb.

Looks really good mate, I'm pleased you are happy with it. So come on, how bad is bad fuel wise, sub S6 18 mpg out of a tank?

How is the 106, still on the road? I think you need to share with the group the new paint job B):) .

My mate has one of these in silver. It's running around 1.1 bar. Nice and quick. They seem to get hot quickly though, all those cooling vents for various engine components concerns me a bit!

Awesome car mate! So much cooler than any Impreza or Evo. Nice choice. I think the only way to go after 205's is jap turbo fun!

I used to love going out in my friends gt4 nothing could touch it floor it and it still had traction even in the wet. great car! I remember they come with lots of goodies as standard I would fit something new like an oil catch tank on my 205 and my mate would say the gt4 already has one.

The 106 is still on my driveway atm awaiting a new owner, I should hopefully be swapping it in return for a major service and cambelt change etc on the Celica.

Fuel consumption... Well your looking at an average of 22mpg with a litte toe down action. Basically moral of the story is minimum to put in it really is £20 if not it's gone almost straight away.

It is so worth it though the way the thing comes of the line is absolutely mental. My friend has a 400Bhp Skyline and off the lights it leaves him.

Yeah they are packed full of goodies especially the Jap imports. Mine has... Air con, Climate control, ABS, Electric mirrors, Auto folding mirros, Oil cooler, Intercooler, Charge cooler, Catch tank, Torsen limited slip rear diff... The list goes on and on really.

22 mpg is not too bad considering the bang for your buck that you are getting.

You seem to have omitted any comment/photos of the Starsky and Hutch 106 reincarnation strangly <_< , please rectify.

As I said, glad you are enjoying the GT4, don't be a stranger on here nor forget us. I anticipate you will be back in a 205 in the future.

22mpg is actually pretty good!

I'm afraid i really hate those Celica's, although i know they're quick and have tons of grip i just can't stand the exterior and interior. But it's your car and you're obviously very happy with it so that's what counts of course! <_<

What's the insurance like? I'm presuming from the number plate it's an import?

Yeah I am planning to get another 205 wouldnt mind a nice 1.6 as a daily really but we will see what happens there. I shall post up a pic of the starsky and hutch mobile when I get home, that was quite some car.

Are you still in the Volvo Jonny?

Yeah it is an import, Insurance is actually really ok. It's group 16 suprisingly and was around £700 cheaper to insure than a Scooby. Are you still looking at the possibility of an Evo Baz?

That's not bad then! :o

The Evo i was interested in sold unfortunately, i spent far too long pondering it and tbh i think i've changed my mind on getting one. I've bought a 406 as a sensible daily and a couple more 205's, but tbh i'm bored of the 406 already and keep wondering if i should just bite the bullet and get what i really want, an E39 M5! <_<

Good to hear all is okay, Volvo T5 is still here, I miss the Audi S6 though.

I have plans for a 911 to compensate though.

My garage is always open as they say..

not my cup of tea at all, sorry, but I think it badly needs the rear spoiler as looks lost without it.

22mpg is excellent if you are giving it some!! my Clio V6 will only do 18mpg if you really give it some beans! though it will do 29.9mpg if you behave and on a good run, could not get 30mpg no matter how hard I tried!

even my 406 v6 will only do 22mpg if you hammer it so id say 22from that is pretty good.

so you say insurance is £700 cheaper than a scooby, but how much is it still really costing you!?

you will be back in a 205 soon for sure!

911 really!? I like them, but you had better start saving as nice ones are not cheap!

I really don't like mine without the rear spoiler, it just ruins the idea concept of it and the spoiler is functional too so the difference is noticeable. I have found one for it though and it will be on and looking lovely soon I hope. Just a shame the car won't see the road until March/April time as it's tucked away in the nice warm barn.

My average day to day mpg is about 18mpg now, that's with a reasonably large amount of right foot up to speed limit, when you put your foot down the feeling of being pinned to your seat is rather addictive.

I have been keeping an eye out for a well priced 205 in Miami blue or lazer green mmm... I will be back in a 205 pretty soon if all goes to plan then will have both the Gt4 and a nice 205 to play with. I do miss my 205 a lot and regret selling it but at the same time it's nice to have a change to something totally different.

Hopefully over the winter I'm going to be getting a fair bit done on the Gt4 I want to see over 300bhp, that depends wether I buy another 205 or not really.

What do you have to do to get 300 out of them? I've heard mixed things.

Recap - didn't you sell the 205 to save money?

And I thought my MPG was bad! :o
