Hi,

Im planning on building a xu7 engine for my rally car just to be abit diffrent.

My plan is lighten and balanced bottom end with uprated rod bolts and maybe oil pump set up from a gti-6?

Xu10Rs head inlet and exhaust manifolds.

now thing thats most on my mind it what rpm is safe for the bottom end and hydraulic followers?

Also thinking to get the cam reprofiled or am i better off going new?

Advise please.

Thanks paul.

You'll find that Sandy posted alot of very detailed info about the XU7JP4 engine a while back.

28CRAIG has done the conversion that you're talking about (GTi-6 head/manifolds/cams and XU7 bottom end) and it works well and loves to rev - again, do a search and you'll find info about it. 160hp and 125lbft from memory. I've got all the bits for a similar engine that I've half-built (and really should finish) should I decide not to keep the 8v for whatever reason.

Hydraulic tappets are generally good for about 7500rpm, above that you take your chances.

To get some idea of what an XU7 based engine is capable of, do a search for a 306 race car that Sandy built for Dixon :)
