Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

i've been googling for about an hour now but havent come up with anything substantial.

You may have it driving OK, but be under no illusion that you WILL be down on the power it could make until you properly map the ignition timing under load on the rollers. The fuelling can be got reasonably close on the road with a wideband, but the ignition needs trimming with a torque readout as you do it.

yeah i havent touched the ignition at all. and understand that it is by no means 'finished' but for £40-50 just to get an idea of how its looking i dont mind paying. you see what i mean?

and the link above looks good, maybe they can even map ms :D any experience with them?

You'd be better off to bite the bullet and spend £200 or whatever and get them to map the ignition timing though?

Never heard anything but praise for Torque of the Devil down Sussex way if that's not too far?

I agree with Tom on this one, pointless just getting a power run if its not even mapped properly, just get the car mapped, generally takes around 3hrs for a full map.

i did speak to them a while ago, was just looking for something a little closer.

its pretty close all bar the ignition and frantically quick, plus am considering going for some proper tb's in the new year so may be a waste of time mapping it on std induction.

plus not many places want to/can map megasquirt.

TracknRoad, TOTD, or if you want to come North a little to the border off Essex-shire;

http://tcsperformance.co.uk/

spoke to tracknroad this evening and he said as long as the megasquirt setup is not too shoddy he'll map it for 90 an hour. we'll see how good my wiring is then??

what are tcsperformance like Baz? they seem a little cheaper too :D may give them a bell tomorrow.

Track and Road is recognised by many motorsport monkeys as the place to go.

The Steves are great and will give you no-nonsese advice.

They take care of you, and your car, and will not tell you "what you want to hear", but what is actually happening.

As a guide - they've mapped fords cars for forgien markets where fuel quality is bad, they regularly map exotic race cars, le mans cars, development cars (which is a true sign of peoples trust in their ability).

I wouldn't take my cars anywhere else (indeed even Dave Walker has lost Emerald customers to them).

However be prepared to make lots of cups of tea and go get teh McDonalds. Or of course you can chance the kebab van the pulls up outside.

closest of the three suggested too :D

I think I recall seeing a track n road sticker on Guy Wigley's Ex-works 306 Maxi, as its now running new management instead of its original Magnetti marelli ECU.

Much cheapness yes, but Tom's pretty much a one man band with next-to none or useless help, therefore he's very busy and sometimes it takes a bit longer than it should, or you may on the odd occasion get let down. But other than that, he has the best kit available and is a very knowledgable and helpful chap, that equally won't bulls*it you when it comes to your car etc. If you're on a budget and/or have the time and would rather talk to someone who will help you learn and understand while he works, he's your man.

But if you just want to get the job done, simply & straight forward style, pay your (more) money then go to someone like Steve&Steve. That would be my choice anyway.
