Exhaust Issue

Recommended Posts

Jake_GTI

i currently have a massive stupid looking coke can sized exhaust on my car and it's way way too loud!! (was on the car when i brought it)

i want to get it replaced with something a bit quieter, i have a pretty much standard 1.6 gti, i was thinking of going for a stainless manifold and system, what do you recon would be a good option? i am on a budget so nothing too expensive. what alternatives do i have also?

cheers

I've got a Magnex system for sale - 4-1 manifold, centre section (with silencer) and backbox with 3" tailpipe.

Not a million miles from you either

Definately a standard system. It is widely accepted they're about the best you can get from a gas flow/performance persective. It's what I have on my 1.6, and it still creates enough noise tbh and avoids any potential chav/boy racer connotation.

As long as it's not some pattern part s*it. It might be difficult to get an OE system that is up to the standards of the orginal part these days.

I'm not so sure, modern systems are even better performance wise than those designed 25+ years ago so with the correct design downpipe & capacity boxes it might even be better imo.

where am i likely to find one of those? i was thinking of the full ss system because i have heard that modern systems arent as good as the original pug system and that a full ss system can in some cases increase power output?

i'm no mechanic, i like a bit of noise but not what mines doing now, it's just daft how loud mine is :)

Arvin Meritor is good , quality system ... with smooth pipe bends and straight trough silencers (both the middle an rear ..) .. and it doesn't cost much either ..

But this one will be like OE system , so it'll be quiet ..

Really doubt that you'll gain some power by fitting performance exhaust only , certainly not on this car/engine , i'll just be a different "soundrack" ..
