Hi guys,

On my 2.0 iron block xu10 engine there´s a head from the ealier xu9 1.9 alu Mi16 engine fitted.

Why?

Is there any difference between the two heads? Why would one choose to fit a 1.9 head to a 2.0 engine?

The engine was built by a very well known engine builder here in denmark who built most Peugeot race engines to DTC(danish BTCC) and also the engines to the WTCC Peugeots some years ago. Why would he coose the ealier head?

Already been at Peters web page.

Hoping for anyone with knowledge of other differences than the ones listed by Peter.

Don´t think that there was any "head shortage" in the builders shop. But the answer might be as easy as that.

Does the ealier head make better performance than the xu10 one? Or is it easier to modify.

The two heads are identical in terms of flow/dimensions etc. If anything the XU10 head is better for entry level performance as the castings/core shifts are better. So it's far easier to port the later head with a STD inlet valve. If fitting big valves then it's irrelevent as so much metal has to be removed anyway. It's more work to plug up the oil return hole in the side of the XU10 head if a cam sensor isn't necessary. Otherwise there's no reason why you can't fit cam seals to an XU10 head.

Now Martin, are you messing about with the engine again? :D What are you up to now?

I dont think there is any particular reason why he went with the earlier head. Maybe he likes those better or something.

I believe the head has been fitted with bigger valves, so it would be irrelevant which head he used. I guess that could be the answer to why he used that head - just because.... :)

EDIT: Btw i owned the engine before Martin.
