Can A Baby's Car Seat Be Fitted To Bucket Seat + Harnesses?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

A strange question I know but there is a lot of baby talk going on at the moment on here.

As another expectant father, I just wondered if Atari Baby will be able to come out in my track 205 with me?

I gave yet to get my head around how car seats work without Isofix but i have Cobra Monaco S' and 3 point Sabbelt harnesses fitted.

His mother would go mental if she thought I was asking such questions, she has already said karting is dangerous for young boys  .

Many thanks

I think 16 is the lower limit for passengers.

Sorry, I did not mean track use but using the car on the road.

No, i think it's very unlikely that this would work as they're designed to sit snuggly against the squab of most car seats, the standard belts then go through the bottom and across the back of the seat and it locks down that way unless you use Isofix.

Either way the bucket seat will obstruct the fixings of the seat and the harnesses won't do the trick.

All that is assuming the baby seat would even fit inside the bucket which i very much doubt as they're pretty wide at the base, especially if it's one that reclines.

I wonder what would be louder though... Atari baby screaming or your Mi16 screaming?

Have wondered the same myself, never actually tried to fit it though. Although now my boy is ain a front facing seat it might work. May have a go this weekend.

Ps I love that people thought you meant taking your baby on track. Awsome!

The last place I'd want to put a new born is in a 205 - never mind a track 205!

I'm not surprised the wee one's mum would go mad if you suggested it.

mind you, we had a 205 when both my two were little (from 1 to 6) and it was fine, we sold it and got a 309 as it became apparent that with another baby and a toddler, rear doors were THE thing to have!

But the nipper in the front I'd say no, so I'm out!

Thanks chaps, I have got a standard road 205 too (although not actually on the road at the moment), I was trying to establish the principal of if could I rather than will I.

It could work, depends on the baby seat and bucket seat though of course, i've just spent a few minutes looking for base1's picture of a historic 911 rally car with a baby seat fitted... :o

I have done it :o . My little one loves coming out in the car.

As said it is down to the baby seat and how much you value your child's life. Having said that the child seat was a lot more securer in the bucket seat with harness than when in a normal car seat and 3 point belt.

I was not planning a big hoon about, more just to establish his Peugeot roots at an early stage.

I picked this up for him when I was in Germany earlier in the year :o .

And its 205! Well in a round about way. The only thing I think you may have a problem with is if you get stopped by plod.

I honestly think it is down to common sense, if you can get the seat to fit and it is secure with no movement I don't see a problem with it.

My mate had an old mini with two buckets seats in it and we put the baby seat on the back Bulkhead (back seat was removed) and then ratchet strapped the baby seat in - the seat was more secure in there than in the people carrier his wife drives !!

So in theory you could use a ratchet strap to secure the baby seat into the bucket seat. Will be secure . If I had kids - and a 205 :o then I would do it. (while the wife / gf was out tho)

Good luck

[iv been thinking this myself for a while now, iv tested it and my boys front facing seat fits a bucket seat so snug it feels way more secure than when its fitted to a normal car seat. there is no side to side movement at all (its shocking how much movement there can be in them especially when fitted to a vans front bench), but the baby rear facing seat didnt feels as good. Usually they move up to the front facing seat at 9 months.

Id fit the passenger seat belt not use the harness tho as you'd still be able to use the seat as its meant to be

iv not driven with it yet as the cars not on the road but iv looked at the laws and asked the local child safety seat advisor about it, and they say as long as its secure and not in the middle in the back its fine.

just make sure its secure and im sure you wouldnt drive it about unless it felt safe! nothing like training them early.

It's not a matter of "will it fit". It's more, is it secure/safe in the event of an accident.

my boy goes in ine with his booster seat no probs, much safer than a normal seat belt imo?

he is 3 though and he loves it :)

cant see it working with a rear facing one as there is no way of fixing it in.

I can say a Graco child seat fits fine in a Corbeau Forza seat with a seatbelt :)
