Big Power 205s ?

Was that by any chance a totally stock looking G reg in Cherry Red?

Yes indeed that was the car. I'm not sure what happened to it, I think the engine was removed for another project

pug1off one has 550bhp or so..probably fun if you can control your right foot.

I might have seen that, is it the twin charged yellow one with nos?

It has been at Pugfest a few times and is stupidly powerful!

Just a silly figures name, I could build one with that power without too much hassle, Mind it would cost allot

I have a high power charged 205. Traction really isn't an issue unless you drive like a tool. Unfortunately what is a major issue is that these little chassis aren't built for it. After months of problems getting my car running i have managed to bend my chassis. lol

' The T16 lump is clearly an awesome package, but in a car that looks like nothing more than a mint 205 the fun to be had is endless ' -

excellent, just excellent  !

Agreed! After driving that car i vowed to own a T16 engined car at some time which is why i now have the 306 T16 which is standard looking apart from different wheels :D

Reminds me in the looks department of my own red 205! Not sure mine is quick to T16 levels though (yet....)!

I remember seeing that red one at FCS 05 or 06, was mint!

I hope people didn't think I was being negative about huge power 205s; I was only perhaps labouring the point about how these figures get that high, and that to get N/A figures that high you really need to acquire displacement, and that the power is delivered in very different ways.

So as an example, these (increasingly common) 300bhp N/A 16v engines running (peak?) 9600rpm, will make an estimated 175lbft peak torque.

This is a rough calc based on BHP = [Torque (lbft) x RPM] / 5252) => [300 x 5252] / 9600 = 164lbft torque. So if 9600 is peak RPM, it's likely peak torque will be a little lower down the RPM range, so I've added a little.

Putting that in perspective, a standard XU9J4 1.9 Mi16 produces 133lbft and makes 160bhp.

My 2.2 made 202bhp at the wheels so perhaps 235bhp at the fly, maybe more. But it made 196lbft+ of torque.

As a 350bhp S/C or T/C 16v Mi/S16 or GTI6 is typically not having its internals considerably strengthened/lightened/swapped to withstand 8000rpm plus, peak RPM remains about 7-7.2-7.5k. And as some I recall were making peak power at 6,600rpm, the calcs above mean the following approximate torque's being made by these engines:

[350 x 5252] / 6600 = 278lbft!!! And that's probably not peak torque, maybe being nearer 290lbft a bit lower down the rev range.

This is where the surge and acceleration power comes from, on boost, turning the gearbox, driveshafts, wheels and tryes like mad and is where fun but also breakage of traction and parts surely must become an issue. In fact James (WRacing) has just confirmed twisted chassis!

So don't think me negative, just a N/A fan who sees these forced induction figures as high bordering on difficult to use fully in our beloved 205s.

I praise and respect anyone who builds these cars/engines as it's clearly great fun; just not my scene.

I think we are all grown up enough to understand we all have different tastes Rich ;)

I know I will build a mental N/a car before going turbo, but I dont think I would turn my nose up at one ever, unless they are trying to do something silly like run 600bhp through a standard drivetrain. As Pirelli used to say..power is nothing without control

I think you made a good point actually and what you said about torque and the way the power is delivered is key.

Forced induction or normally aspirated is neither right or wrong, it depends on application IMO. For a road car a turbo is great fun. For a race maybe not so practical. I've been lucky to own 8 valvers, 8 valve turbo, Mi16 and T16 powered cars and they're all different and have pros and cons i suppose.

I hadn't seen the Ecosse article until now but it was a superb car. It didn't have the traction control when i drove it though ;)

I believe it was used at a Max Power organised "Supercar shootout" where they put various modified street cars against Supercars. The 205 beat a Lambo although ultimately ran out of revs at the top end due to the gearing.

Awesome ! ;) What kind of times was that doing down the drag strip? (I assume with that power that it'd been built purely for drag stripping)

i think it only made that power once on the dyno then never ran it agian, might be wrong thoe

dunno, but I know of a 106 rallye with a mere 200 ish n/a bhp that can get into the 12's.

Its a Scottish Hillclimb car (though still usable on the road afaik!) linky here, but It's members only in that section.

The thread is 26 pages long as the build started in December 06, 50 posts per page :)

692 Kilos...

this is his 9000 rpm RR run,

follow on to his other videos and you'll see several hill runs.

its a gripper H pattern gearbox and its pretty much flat out after 1/4 of a mile.

440kg Mini, 220bhp, 11.12second 1/4 mile, with not the most lightweight driver in the world (me) driving. Next stop the 10's (with any luck!)

Awesome. I love Minis, always have. Never owned one, but my mum had one when I was younger (1.1 Clubman on reg RGN818R). Its long deceased now though otherwise I would have nabbed it years ago (about 20 years ago now).

Also one of the guys that runs the jap import garage I take my FTO too, he has a bright green 1970s Mini he's had since new and he's got various engines he swaps around in it. Its his "tinker toy" and he says its does 0-100mph very quickly but then tops out at 100.
