Mi16 Cam Oil Seal Question

Recommended Posts

I've had a little oil leak on the Mi16 for a while and decided to investigate today. On the passenger side I have a little black cap over the end of the exhaust cam as I have no distributor. I noticed a leak there so pulled it off to check the camshaft oil seal. Then I made my mistake...I started the engine to watch the oil seal for any leaks...only I didn't realise the centre of the cam was an oil way?!?! Oil came firing out of the centre of the camshaft like a fire hose...

My question, is this normal? Should oil be firing down the centre of the cam? I can't see how that can happen...

Just so you know, this is actually an inlet cam which has the notch for a dizzy to be attached to it but I'm using it on the exhaust.

I presume I can get a bolt to plug the thing up. Time to dig out the peugeot parts cd...

Miles

It's not a notch for a Dizzy but the Cam sensor which leads onto the vacume pump (If fitted) so it's a oil feed for those, If it's a 2.0 Head (Cannot remember now) the oil drain will be blocked of in the side of it

Hmm, i just checked and it's definitely threaded. I can't see anything on the peugeot parts cd though. Anyone got a spare cam to hand that is obviously threaded at both ends? I just need to find out the thread size.
