Diesel To Mi16

I dont ask questions like this often as usually i just go ahead and give it a go.

 

However im thinking of puting an mi16 engine into what was origanly a 1.8 diesel.

Now ive done this plenty of times converting the loom ect so the brown multi plugs just plug into the gti loom and away you go.

 

I havn't yet had a look at the diesel wiring because tbh there probably wont be any there at all as it only needs a switched live for the fuel stop solinoid and the starter.

 

So has anyone done this before?

 

Or should i just pull the dash out and fit a full gti loom?

I would be inclined to put in a full gti loom to be honest. You obviously wont have all the instruments on the diesel versions so would think a gti loom and dials would be a good bet, even if your diesel has a rev counter the take off is via a crank sensor so no use. Also things like ignition barrel is possibly different and will have wiring for glow plug timer and things.

True, but its quite a bit of work changine all that,

 

ive looked into it and i will only need 3 wires from the gti clocks to the water,oil temp/pressure gauges 1 for the rev counter. then Ignition live and the starter wire staye the same.

 

Easy in thoery but i havent actualy done it so cant be sure.

 

If anyone knows for definate that would be great!
