Camshaft Regrinds

Recommended Posts

I'm just about to fit my Petert stage 2 regrind cam into MI16 and I never thought to ask peter.

When these are fitted do I still have to run them at 2000rpm for 20mins and if I do will I just use the oil thats in the car at present (Comma 10/40)

I have read somewhere about someone using gear oil for intial start up ?

I would just make sure they are well oiled before start up and then do the fast idle, then I would do an oil change.

Cam/assembly lube is like gear oil (thick, not like our 75w80) but not absolutely essential IMO when just changing cams.

I would do the fast idle bedding in process at any time of changing the cams, it helps bed the cam to the followers etc.

Do they procedures apply to regrinds though? I did none of the above on my petert stage 1 with no ill effects

So can I get away with using a litre of gear oil poured over the cam for initial start up ?

I think the process applies to all cams that have not seen the surface of the lifters, check pumaracings guide, he explains it in his own in-imitable fashion ;)
