Crank Sensor And No Gears

Recommended Posts

Astronought

Hi,

I've just bought a CTI a couple of months ago on Saturday morning it wouldn't start so I had to call the RAC, first time in eleven years!!!

He disconnected a plug lead to insert his lamp to check for a spark and the engine started and has continued to do so since then. The RAC bloke said I should get the crank sensor changed, when I went to my local supplier he said there was nothing listed. Is there a crank sensor and does anyone know the part number?

As if this wasn't enough on sunday I lost the ability to get any gear at a set of trafficlights!! I finally found 4th gear and managed to limp home. I adjusted the clutch and all seemed ok, however again today at a set of lights nothing, found a gear and then drove home (40 miles) able to change gear easilly. Anybody got any ideas?

Cheers

have a look what ecu yours has, also check that the ball joint on the subframe isn't loose (for the main gear rod), there is a nut you access through the underneath of the subframe to tighten it back up.

No UK spec CTI has a crank sensor, All use Jetronic so it shows how much the RAC man knew, so I;d check the 3 pin plug between the Dizzy and ign Amp, Cap/Arm leads etc

Gears will be either one of the linkages as said or the bush's in the gearstick of Quadrant on the subframe

Probably the brown multiplug by the airflow meter. These are known to corrode

Hi,

Thanks to all for the information and tips.

The clutch went yesterday on the way to work, so it turned out not to be the linkage as I'd hoped.

I've also cleaned all the multiplugs I could find and acouple were badly corroded, but cleaned up ok. Hopefully I'll have no more trouble for a while.

Thanks Again
