Last Run In The 205 Mi16

I never usually see any 205s on the road anymore but I took my 205 out for a run yesterday morning and saw another red GTi with an Mi16 badge on the boot! What are the chances! :D It was joining the M60 near Stockport, gave the driver a toot as I overtook.

Think I'm going to be sad to see it go as I've had it for 12 years now (Mi16'd for 10 of those), it probably needs the new owner to use it properly and just tidy it up a bit. Even though it's not been used much in the past 5 years and been stood for 2 it drives fine, the engine as strong as ever - only the brakes took a while to come back as the discs were a little surface rusty.

I've been driving an M Coupe for 5 years and this kind of tookover for trackdays so the 205 was relegated to sitting on the drive. But whilst having it temporarily insured and with a new MOT I took the opportunity to take it out; one thing I noticed is that on local less-than-smooth roads it feels really crashy and clonky, the steering a bit vague and maybe it lacking low/mid-range torque (used to 3.2 M engine) so I'm thinking maybe it's not as good as I remembered! ...but then I took it down some old favourite a/b-roads at night as last run out and it just comes alive in a way the BMW cannot match, the suspension calms down, the steering weights up and gives great feedback and you end up a rhythm of swapping cogs, heal & toeing and applying tiny amounts of steering without thinking meaning you end a challenging road knowing you drove it but it blurring into a seamless string of corners. It also felt amazingly grippy in the damp conditions. I actually drove it probably 60miles before opening it up and it's still a great engine the 1.9 Mi16, the note changes at about 4500rpm and it just spins hard to the redline everytime you want it too :P But even though it does do this on demand I always end up short-shifting on b-roads driving at 7/10ths just enjoying swapping the closely stacked ratios hehe

It may end up being the same old story of selling it and regretting it but at the moment I think it's the right decision as I can't see myself using it anytime soon and it's really is just going to deteriorate sat on the drive. Hopefully the new owner will look after the piece-de-resistance (aka Mi16 engine) as I'm sure it's itching for a trackday :(

The most popular one is the Ford Sierra Cosworth chase from '04  and then the MLR EVO day at Cadwell where the exhaust fell off lol ('04 also I think).
