Which Primer Is Best To Use

Recommended Posts

SurGie

Hi Members,

I shall soon be sorting out the projects welding and would like to know people's opinions on these items im thinking of using for my welds and the clean strengthening steel plates.

I was going to use some of that red Jenolite primer but it looks like hammerite have bought them out and are no longer available.

1ST Primer

2ND Primer

3RD Primer

I'm thinking of using the same or similar red primer like what was used on Dr Sarty's Evo project.

Cheers .

Bilt Hamber again here.

Not used anything else out of a can that's decent to weld through, has good adhesion and sensibly priced.

DO NOT try and weld through primer, you will never get a decent weld out of it! You can use it to paint the back of the metal before you weld it but that's only good if you're putting in a new patch, and it can still affect the weld quality.

You need to be welding to BARE METAL , ideally on both sides of the material. Do your welding, then use an etch primer (U-Pol is good) to coat the bare metal but try to avoid any existing paintwork.
