[trackday_prep] 205gti-6 Track Ready !

Recommended Posts

ben25

Hi all,

I'm a froggy, I leave in the East of the France near Switzerland & Deutchland, 1 year ago I come in UK to buy an 205 GTI-6.

My plan is to convert it into a track weapon to beat some M3 of my friends...

One year ago when I buy it :

13558751.jpg

13558752.jpg

Some details :

Engine :

- XU10J4RS

- twin 45's Dellorto carbs

Gearbox :

205GTI 1.6

Quaife ATB LSD

Drivetrain :

4 Spax shockers

Brake :

Standard front & rear

Interior :

Standard

When I come back in France I start my project so the first things to do : less weight !!!!

So ....

imgp2169.th.jpgimgp2170t.th.jpgimgp2171h.th.jpgimgp2172.th.jpg

imgp2173j.th.jpgimgp2174.th.jpgimgp2185.th.jpg

Not very beautifull .. but : 747kg ! that's nice ...

It's not finish at all. After one trackday, I have a big problem : the BRAKE !!!!!

So I swap my standard GTI brake for a set of 307hdi brake with discs..

Thats better !!!

A quick shoot beside my Skyline :

After I add some extra's on my car :

- 2x Sparco Corsa seats

- 2x RRS harness

- 1 compbrake shortshifter

- 1 Sparco Steering wheel

I've also painted the interior...

photo0054v.jpg

After other few trackdays, my suspensions & brakes don't suit me...

So I change my shocks & brakes for :

- Brembo 406v6 calipers with CL RC6 pads

- 23,8 Master cylinder 406 2l without ABS

- Braided brake line from master cylinder to all calipers with willwood limiter

- 4 PTS Asphalte suspensions

After a quick clean into the engine bay : (braided brake line not installed)

Recently I make a big order to compbrake :

- 2 compbrake wishbones

- 2 Track Tie Rod Ends

- 2 Adjustable Top Mount

All these part to give me 2,4° of negative camber (an amazing change !!!!)

And I also Add an OMP front upper bar

Finaly I add some cosmetics things to customize my car :

Nice looking, where you get the badges from or did you paint them?

Looks like you have a breather hose missing in the engine bay on the rocker cover.

You English is good and much better than my Frence. Which tracks do you go to in France?

I have told about a fantastic track in Holland on the coast but I don't remember it's name.

Ben, nice looking 205! I also like the looks of that "Mas Du clos" track. Looks like's great fun. Bas, looking at the pictures, I think we have to go to France for some track fun.

Further on, I'm also wondering how Ben managed to fit the Brembo's in the 15" 205 GTi Speedlines.

@Mart Pug : Thx, A big trip to go to UK for a trackday but why not (is there some interesting track near Dover ? Folkstone ?)

Some upgrade are plan for this winter :

Big Update,

At the begining of this year I've crash my car on track. A rear pads has gone during a lap and when I try to brake the pedal go on the floor without stopping at all the car. I've cross the sand and finaly arrive in tyres.

The car was dead (and my wrist and a tendon also ) :

photo259w.jpg

Not very impressive but enough to make the chassis HS.

206679_10150163413937302_769232301_6552391_3564886_n.jpg

After that the mechanic was fine so I've to save it :

dsc04792____423.jpg

dsc04783____989.jpg

dsc04789____126.jpg

dsc04786____573.jpg

So now the car was cut in two parts and a local breaker take it.

So let's start with a new sheel, welded and caged naturaly.

First Step : painting ! 'home made" white mat.

After I've add all the elements of the car one by one.... (lots of work when you have just one hand valid and when you are alone to work on)

311772_10150359547992302_769232301_8062505_1443998520_n.jpg

Adding some nices parts like Newmans ph2 cams, PTS GrA coilovers, complete solid bush rear axle, brake without any assistance, etc. etc. And also a little detail I pass from RHD to an LHD car (more easy to find here in France lol).

I'm wainting for a friend who modifie my front hub. Cause PTS GrA Coilovers have a diameter of 54mm but the standard hub is 50mm.

I also have short ARB link who ar fixed directly to the hub (same as 205 GrA) :

Soon ready to fight on track !!!!!!!

Thanks,

Rallyeash no need injection at all I love so much my carbs and there noises. lol.

I prefer saving my money to go on track and buy lots of A005 than buying an ECU with need of mapping, injectors, etc.

(mapping in france is extremly expensive and very very few people are good in this job)
