Starting Issue After 1st Engine Start.

Recommended Posts

205*31*

Hey guys ok I have another niggly problem. I have recently changed injectors, ecu and afm to 1.9 parts and seem to have developed abit of a warm start issue.

First starting when its stone cold i.e. 12 hour + it fires straight away but if I have driven it until engines got warm and stopped somewhere for say 10-20min I come back to car and its cranking over for awhile until it seems to splutter into life, if say I stopped and turned engine of and cranked straight away it will fire its when its been driven and stood for around 6 hour it struggles to fire.

I have been told it might be a leaking injector or an air leak from injector. but I have just had this set fully refurbed by megasquirt so it should seem unlikely.

The car drives fine once started smooth as anything no jerky ride just this niggly starting when warm :(#

anyone any ideas?

cheers guys

Try disconnecting the injectors when this happens and see if it fires up.

Disconnect them all, then if it fires up and then cuts out you know its down to flooding or as you say the injectors are leaking, leaving a load of fuel in the cylinder. Worth also checking you have a good spark, ignition amps are renowned for having a paddy if they get too hot.

heyup mate I did what you said disconnected all injectors after I got back home from a drive left them of about 15min went back to car it still cranked over abit then spluttered into life and obviously died and cut out so don't look likely injectors ;)

I have also been told it might be the fuel pressure regulator but then again it was fine when I had all 1.6 parts on the car so don't seem likely.

One thing I have noticed today is a black connector which wasn't connected no idea what it is but I have reconnected it

Thanks for reply. Well I still have the original distributor on and people on here say 1.6 and 1.9 dizzys are different so not sure, I can't here the engine pinking when driving, it does actually feel abit slower than when I had the 1.6 injectors, afm and ecu in so think it needs a tune up. Its fueling ok though don't think its running rich or anything I am getting 110 miles to £20 town driving which I gather is pretty good :)

A mate at work who works on his own cars repairing etc... still thinks its my injectors that have maybe an air leak not sealed properly, he has suggested I take out the injectors and grease both the rubber rings on the injectors and reseat them, anybody think this is worth doing?

cheers.

it obviously must be relating to either the injectors, ecu or afm as these are what I changed since it has started doing this.

no replys in awhile. Been thinking is it worth me maybe just leaning the fuel mixture abit with afm screw? could it be abit too rich dumping too much fuel in??

Hi. As a test I still have my old 1.6 injectors could I swap them over with the 1.9s and still run the 1.9 afm and ecu obviously just taking it easy and not driving it hard just to see if the problem still persists this way I could determine if its injectors or not.

cheers.

Tried changing ECU temp sensor ? the one beneath the dizzy with blue 2pin plug .. (sensor has green body)

This one , the ECU temp sensor , provides additional signal to the ECU in order to richen up/lean out the mixture by increasing/decreasing injector pulse width .. so , if overfueling or hot engine starting problem is an issue , might be that ..

Next , id try to replace the ignition amp .. (but don't forget to apply thermal transfer paste when ever disturbing the amp of the ally plate ..)

Damir :)

Hi Damir thanks for reply but the ECU temp theory doesn't add up as when I had the 1.6 setup on it was fine didn't have the warm start problem and I haven't touched the ECU temp sensor since then.

You mention the ignition amp funny that, the other morning when I got in car and attempted to fire it with the push start button fitted I got nothing at all didn't even crank over just dead had a fiddle around pushed various things including the amp connection as this on mine is abit iffy then it suddenly started cranking and fired? very odd been ok past few days.

I still think its a fueling issue though and only fueling thing I have changed is injectors.

Have you solved the issue? I have similiar problem. Cold and hot starting is ok. When hot engine has stood for ~10 minutes it won't start at first time. Still always at second time it starts immidiately. Even half a second engine turning helps it to start the second time.
