Help us to help you buddy.

When you turn the key what happens?

What car/year/engine is it?

Any modifications made?

Have you ever had it running or is this a more recent problem?

i guess you havent connected the starter up right then ? if the starter has been re-built and you have the possitive connected up from battery/alternator and the other wire straight from your ignition switch it should start right up..

you could always test the ignition live to the starter with a test light

If it bump starts then everything apart from the starter circuit is ok. As the starter circuit goes through the brown multiplug above the gearbox I'd wager 10 quid on your problems being with that. Ferret around for the big brown plug above the gearbox, unplug it and replug it a bunch of times. Spray some WD40 on it, clean it up as best you can and report back...

How are the earths? can you connect a jump lead or similar direct from the battery neg to a clean bit of metal on the engine?
