Balancing Gti Alloys

Recommended Posts

gerallt_p

Seem to remeber reading somewhere that somebody drilled the center of their 1.6 GTI alloys (the solid ones) to enable easier balancing of them?

I've done a search but cant seem to find more info about doing it, anyone done it on here? Im sure it was on here I saw it!!!! :o

Thinking of doing mine as im pretty sure i knocked a weight off on a rally last weekend.

Thanks

Gerallt

I have seen that done on Rallycross cars, though I never asked how they did it, some looked like they did just use a holesaw!

Would imagine it to be easy enough to turn out the centres as there is a ridge on the face, bolt them to a spare hub flange and clamp the flange into a lathe and away you go.

I just take them to the local tyre place - they bolt them onto the machine and balance.

Sure that most place have the facility to do it, they just too lazy to put the other attachment on.

A couple of tyre places have made a small fuss about the GTi alloys on my old 106, or the alloys on the 406 without centre caps. They just dont like wasting time swapping the attachment on the balancing machine, but now I try and order the tyres/agree a price before mentioning the alloys lol.
