Tu To Gti6 Conversion - Gear Lever!?

Recommended Posts

I'v not seen, or read many TU to GTI6 conversions. As most of you will know TU gearbox's (all the ones I have driven/seen) are not lift up reverse and from driving my brother GTI6 I know his is. Do i need to get hold of a 205 gti gear lever system to get the wire lift up reverse?

I will more than likely be using a VTS engine and box that I have sourced, I assume this is lift up reverse?

Thanks a lot. Ali

Oh nice one, so I can keep my original gear lever without the lift up!?

i have to admit knowing nothing about the TU powered 205s, But you'll want to replicate the GTI (or even diesel) linkages/lever (no lift up reverse)

Sounds good, i did have my heart set on a 6 speed mainly due to the massive novalty of having a 6 speed box in a 205! I may still swap the vts box for a gti6 one! then i will need to convert to lift up.

Thanks Ali

The TU has different mountings on the subframe for the gear linkages when compared to the XU cars. Easiest way is to get a GTi subframe and put XU rods on it. Plenty of late model diesels in the scrappies should yield the linkages you need!

My car is a TU with e BE box, so I've got a bit of a frankenstein linkage system going on, with both TU and XU linkages being used!
