N/s Engine Mount Being A Pleb

Recommended Posts

allye

Wasn't really sure were to put this but as the rallye has only just stopped being a TU I thought I would put it here. Any ho, got round to trying to take the n/s engine mount of today, got the two side ones off fine, but the main one is being a right fecker!

I left it soaking in rust penetrator over night, even though its not that rusty I can't really see the bottom of the mount as you know. Have you got any tips or suggestions for tring to get it out? it seems to be a really odd sized allen bolt and I don't want to completely round it off!

Cheers, Ali

Get a chisel and aiming it at the metal rim at the edge, whack it to turn the entire mount anti clockwise to undo it. Once it has moved they will usually screw straight out by hand. Forget trying to undo it with the allen key in the stud, all that will happen is you will shear the top metal plate from the rest of the rubber mount.

You could lock a pair of nuts togeather on the top thread and try to undo it that way, or get a great big pipe wrench on it.
