this might soud stupid but which ones better, plus flush locking or flush locking? and when they say locking, they mean you get a key to lock it? is that right?

neither is better than the other they are just different, it's explained on the Aerocatch website, and yes they do lockable version of both meaning you do get a key.

One of them mounts underneath so the catch is flush with the bonnet surface and one of them mounts on top so it's raised up slightly. IMO the former is the best, and locking ones are a good idea if you plan to have a removable bonnet.

On a steel bonnet the ones that mount underneath are an absolute cnut to fit, to the point that you are better buying the ones that mount from the top.

so you reccomend i get the one that mounts on top then tom? they will be fitted to my auto bonnet.

is it a case of cutting a whole out for them and then bolt it together from either side of the bonnet if that makes sence?

Aerocatches look much better and done right sit flush with the bonnet.

However if used for track days or motorsport you'd be better sticking with the traditional bonnet pins as the aerocatches can snap/split so you could be left with a bonnet that won't shut. The traditional catches tend to bend more and still fit.

I totally agree with tom, go with the ones that mount from the top.

If you want some pictures of my fitting of Aero catches, drop me a line... as I'm between uploading sites....

Until you go to the Nurburgring, when they won't let you on the track with them.

Yeah be careful at the ring.

Mate got banned this year for his new front splitter.

Wasn't too fused as he only had one lap left, but next year he's making it removalble (as he can drive at Spa with it no problem).

Is there a way of making "normal" bonnet pins into locking ones?

The only way I could think of doing it was to put padlocks through the loops that stick through the bonnet, although this is obviously not ideal! I want to get my track car on the road and can just see some little chav stealing my bonnet (which is completely removable)!

Why is that?

Their own rules, no sharp protrusions on the car, incase you hit a pedestrian, or some such.

Personally if I was getting hit by a car on the ring, sharp protrusions would be the last of my worries, but hey, you cannot argue with the Germans, and it is a long way to travel from England to not be able to go round.

We were there this weekend and plenty of cars were running normal bonnet pins with no issues. All they had to do was tape over them.

I went for Aerocatches for this reason, but it seems its not a problem.

Do you have the recessed ones or the sit on top jobs?

Cheers! Ali

I have the ones that sit on top of the bonnet. I have a funny feeling they didnt make the recessed ones when i bought them, i'm not too keen on the recessed ones though.

Exactly, plenty of cars still run normal ones, and some not even covered.

Or worse when you have a completely removable tailgate! :(

A set of small padlocks is a couple of quid though, this is what i have, ideal for when you need to leave the car.
