205 Gti Dont Know Which Front Hubs I Have?

Recommended Posts

Right I've bought myself a bit of a project but its in many parts as yet, now I have the opportunity to get everything I need off a 1.9gti thats being broken running gear wise, but I dont want to go through all that trouble if i already have a 1.9 front setup fitted......

How do I tell the difference between the two types (1.6 + 1.9) hubs

I've gone through the search facility to no avail (its not that great tbh)

Thanks

check the offset of the discs, 1.6 are much taller by 10.1mm, also 1.6 and base model shafts have 30mm nuts, usually staked.

If the hole through the middle of the BRG is 24mm, they are 1900 uprights. If the hole is 20mm they are either 1600 GTI or base model.

The outside diameter of the splines is about 26-27mm the thread is 24mm dia, I guess that means its 1.9 front end.

Its just you can never really tell when you buy a bitsa, ie its running on a 1.6gti rear beam supposidly as the previous owner could find a 1.9gti version.........

Sourced a rear beam already though.

If they are 1.9 GTI hubs you can tell by looking at the driveflange what they are but not between base & 1.6 hubs.

The 1.9 drive flange has a notch across the edge as highlighted in this picture.

One thing to look out for though iss some 306 hubs don't have the notch int he driveflange but take the 1900 driveshafts & brakes etc.

Graham.
