Thrust Bearing Modification?

Recommended Posts

joni

Currently changing my be3 gearbox on my 205 1.9 gti. Noticed the 'lugs' on the thrust bearing which hold it in place are virtually non existent. Crap design? I only fitted the new Valeo clutch and thrust bearing 1000 miles ago! Can I modify the thrust bearing (to make it better than a new one) or do I need a new one?

Well eventually I figured out a reasonable method of modifying the thrust bearing so that it won't come off the lever. It's a bit crude but it works - I glued (araldite) a spade connector (one of those with a female connection and a male connection coming off it) in a groove on the thrust bearing and bent the male bit down so that it now stops the thrust bearing coming off. I cut it down to shape and then repeated the process At the other side. Works perfectly and to top it all off my newly fitted 1.9 box with 4.4 final drive seems to work well (not that I ever doubted luggy's handywork!).
