Broken Down Again Help!

Recommended Posts

I think its something to do with the brown relay in the engine bay (fuel pump relay?) its making a whirring noise with the ignition off. Car will run perfect, then just stop dead as if the fuel is just cut off. I've tried a new relay does exactly the same thing!

Any sugestions much appriciated.

Thats the Main power relay, I guess it left open to the elliments as most are, But they should be in a enclosed box

But check the relay plug, I;ve found a few with loose terminals, Just replace the plug and job done

yeah its the "Injection Supply Relay" number 107 on the wiring diagram.

It is kept in the right box, and plug/connections are all fine. Any other suggestions? (Faulty Fuel Pump?)

Can only be the wiring if you have changed the main relay, You'll have to get a DVM to check the wiring, could be the main supply cable or switched live

Cheers for the help Miles, still can't figure it out though.

Brown Relay now whirring with ignition on, engine won't run at all now as no power getting to fuel pump (wire 76)

On earthing wire 36 which goes to the Fuel Injection ECU from the Brown Relay it can cause the relay to stop Whirring.

As you can probably tell I'm not a 100% on my electrical knowlege.

The wires you mentioned, which numbers are they? Do you suggest I test the resistance of them?

Also with the ignition off all wires to both the Brown and Green Relays have power except wire 76A to the Fuel pump fuse from the Green Realy, is this how it should be?

Check the Earth, the Fuel relay gets a feed from the main relay, No idea on numbers I just know the wires

what miles means is, the connector block that the relay plugs into, the terminals in the block for each pin are probably corroded away and making intermittent and or poor contact, which is causing the relay to buzz as it barely gets enough voltage to do it's job, like when a battery is flat and the starter chatters but does nothing else, I've had the same problem as you, it would cut out over bumps. You need to re-terminate each wire with some spade connectors.

Cheers

I will check again, I'm sure they are fine though. Hope it is as simple as that!

One other thought Starter Motor keeps sticking and have to give it a tap to make it turn over, do you rekon this has anything to do with it, or the solenoid is just on its way out?

Cheers guys

Found the problem! Pin 18 on the ECU completely corroded, opened up the connector and its all moist inside.

The associated wire 18 goes from the Green Relay to the Battery then on to Pin 18 on the Fuel Injection ECU.
