Electrical Trouble!

Recommended Posts

Guest sabryant7

driving yesterday my cd player began to flicker on and off, as well as the the dashboard lights becoming more dim and very slow electric windows! went back to my car later and it wouldnt start i checked the fuse board and one of the relays looked loose pushed that in and it started but but still the dim lights etc! its started after but then this morning the same again! the battery seems low on power when it does start so it seems to me like alternator problems as i has similar problems when i snapped the drive belt in my last car but the alternator belt is fine.

is my alternator dead? or does anyone have any other ideas? im at my uni house and dont think it would last the drive home!

help please!

Either test the alternator output if you have access to a multimeter, or take it somewhere and get them to test it. Then you will know either way.

I had the same problems, and turned out to be the battery/alternator/starter wiring harness. Testing the alternator is piss easy by the way with a meter.

Incidentally, the fix I made clearly brought more problems recently when I would have trouble warm/hot starting. I new, thicker wire from the plug under the dash straight to the starter has sorted that out a treat!
