Engine Not Running Right

Recommended Posts

Richy_cti

had the car on the road for a few weeks now and its not running right, (unsure i have only driven 1 other 205)

idle is bouncy but that to be expected i know they dont idle well,

driving at a steedy speed weather its 30-40-50 its spluters and can even jerk a bit the only mod i know it has is an aftermarket air filter, throttle is extreamy responsive, seams a bit too rev happy, and it stinks of petrol.

its comming off the road over the winter for a full going over and i dont know if i should look at a new lump or not.

its covered 46k so not due to age/ware

When mixture is suspect, and that seems likely in your case, prime culprits will be coolant temp sensor (is it difficult to start at all)/AFM (take the lid of and check condition of the potentiometer track) or throttle position sensor. They would be the first things I would check.

Can you be a little more specific?

How does it idle when warm?

Jerkiness - what revs?

etc etc.....

when its walm it idle better it is little high at 1000-1200 rpm

and tend to be more at lower rpm 2-3000 touch the throttle and jerks and sounds like a miss fire (im asuming its not missing because the power is there) new dizzy and cap new leads and plug a month or two ago

I'd definately be looking at mixture then. Try a new coolant temp sensor, they are inexpensive and very easy to fit.

Fingers crossed for you, if not check out the AFM electronics as per CAPS. It should be available to download on the forum somewhere, if not pm me and ill send you it. I recently checked mine out and retracked the potentiometer and it made a massive difference, idle is a million times better, it doesn't cut out on rapid throttle shut off and generally is much smoother.
