Squeaky Hatchback?

Recommended Posts

Guest Pingo

Hi,

For a long time my 205 GTI have been making some annoying squeaky noises while driving on uneven road.

I have found out the sound is generated from the hatch.

But when I am driving with the trunk open there seems to be no noise at all.

It is getting pretty tiring listening to this squeaking noises, and since driving around with the trunk open is not an option, I want to know if anyone here have had the same problem?

or know what is causing this noise?

Cheers,

Kris

as with many things in life, take some form of lubricant or grease, apply liberally to the pivot/ contact points and flanges... then take her for a ride.

haha ...

I found If you loosen the tail gate latch (the one on the rear panel then push it forward a little and tighten back up when you close the hatch its held tighter. Stopped a bit of rattlingover bumps. you can also adjust the little tailgate rubber bumpstops.

I just moved the latch down a bit to make it a tighter fit when closed.

As above, the squeeking is caused by the small amount of free play in the tailgate when closed, so it's bouncing about ever so slightly as you drive. I'd start by winding out the black rubber bump stops in each corner first, and if no good then go on to adjust the latch a little (loosen the 2 nuts and move the latch downwards 1mm). If you remove too much free play you'll find the hatch will be a bugger to close and you'll need to give it more of a slam for it to catch the latch.
