Why Does It Not Work?

Recommended Posts

Hi, any help greatly appreciated. I replaced the oil temperature switch the one that sits in the sump but still no reading. Is there any other fault im missing like a broken wire or back of the dials?

Thanks

James

Short the wire to the block to earth it out - should read maximum temperature if the wiring and gauge are OK.

Remember that the oil takes alot longer to get upto temperature than the coolant, especially if you're only bumbling around. With an alloy sump or air-oil cooler, it's even worse and in some situations won't get hot enough to read on the gauge!

Your most likely correct there, I dont do long jorneys except when going to oxford once month so i will try next time on a long run. Also I do have a mocal oil cooler and alloy finned sump so again like you say its probably not getting hot enough.

thank you

If you don't have an oilstat, you're going to really struggle to get any heat in the oil with that setup and usage.

Unless you're doing regular trackdays, I'd seriously consider removing the Mocal altogether or at the very least covering it up.

Remember that over-cooling the oil won't do the engine any favours.

that was my next question! i have worried about that and now the colder weather is coming I think i should cover it up. Does the mocal thermostat do a good job? or could I just clingfilm the cooler?

Bit of cardboard over the front of the cooler should help.
