Have You Ever Seen Anything Like It?

Cleaing up my hard disk yesterday and came across some amusing photos i took at shows. I can't begin to comprehend what someone was thinking when doing this let alone to then take it to a car show. Note the string to hold it up

Plenty more where that came from!

I honestly don't understand it.. it's like people who drive around with their cars covered in body filler and primer, I just don't get it. FINISH THE JOB! If you can't finish a job because you don't have the time / money / patience / skill then don't bloody start it! :)

Body modifications are all very well and good but he'll regret that in a few years when the string has stretched and the red of the aerofoil doesn't match the shade of the car.

Is it as ridiculous when fitted to a 206 WRC, or is that acceptable?

To be fair, that's hardly unique to the bodykit brigade, is it? A quick browse of the For Sale section on here normally has quite a few "project" cars getting broken for parts or being sold unfinished for the exact reasons you say.

Also, aren't you still driving around with the bonnet taped at the front to stop it flapping? People in glass houses and all that...

The thing is we all have varying taste and i used to be into body mods myself. My taste in that sense has changed though (as i got older) but i still appreciate a car with a lot of body mods if it's been done well. What makes me laugh about stuff like this is the unbelievable lack of care that goes into the installation.

To slap it on with some fibreglass like that and then take it proudly to a show is something i can't get my head around at all.

I remember taking pics of cars like this at shows and sometimes i was in tears of laughing.

No, because it's fitted to that for a reason. Even if that Opel Corsa was a WRC car in disguise I don't think that wing's going to transmit much downforce through string and body filler.. <_<

That's a bit different to a glued on wing / bodykit though, isn't it. My bonnet flaps around because I made it a bit thin, not because I tried to replace it for some uber bad-boy vented bonnet or whatever. Besides, how many people who've bought fibreglass bonnets find that they flap horrendously at the front and have to fit 5 bonnet pins?

Not sure why you're being so defensive (or offensive) about this, have you got a secret Jap kitted project in primer we don't know about?

The 206 comparison was somewhat tongue-in-cheek but I appreciate that my humour can be a touch dry

You're wrong on the secret Jap project too - it's an unfinished Metro 6R4 replica that was ousted on here a few days back. 5dr FTW <_<

I am ashamed to say that I have been driving round with primer on my passanger side sill for a couple of weeks since finishing the welding, filling and stopper. Its pretty much prepped for paint now, but I haven't got any cherry red paint at the moment. I took it to Asda the other day because the Mrs was out in the Merc. Does this make me a bad person? Perhaps I will delete my account! :)

Do what you like, I just don't like or understand it. :)

I'm not talking about a palm sized patch of primer from a repair job though, I mean people who drive around with unpainted bodykits, or with the whole front end of their car in filler / primer.

The only time I would ever drive a visibly unfinished project is if it was my only car and I needed to drive to pick up parts I needed to finish it. That would never happen though, cos I won't start a job if I'm not going to be able to finish it by the next time I need to use the car! :)

i get where camron is coming from unfinished body kit and badly fitted kits spoilers ect, it looks s*it IMHO, and the wort thing about it is £15 qiud on a few spray cans and it could be painted to an okish standard if your waiting to get it dome properly but want everyone to see it.

its not the kits that get laughed at (well sometimes) its the bad workmanship and lack of effort thats put into it.

If your car is needed as a mode of transport and your body work is incomplete so you have to drive it then fair enough. But taking this kind of thing to a show for other enthusiasts to look at is beyond me. The original photo though of the Corsa with spoiler is finished in his head i reckon. THAT's the scary thing :D
