Diff Shimming?

Recommended Posts

boldy205

Good evening! (i have searched but not reall found a real answer!)

I am about to fit my gripper LSD, and have read in the Haynes book of lies that i will require shims, ranging fron 1.1mm upwards, is this correct or am i reading it wrong? If so, do Pug sell them?

Also, a lot of people cant agree on a suitable oil, Gripper recomend 80/140 Fully Synthetic, but some people in searches use standard 75/80 , any advance in what type of oil is good for both box and diff?

Many thanks

Matt

I think it's just some of the early boxes that need shimming, all the be3s ive seen certainly don't use shims.

I use standard motorfactor 75w80 oil with my tran-x and have had no problems whatsoever. Al

The only box's that use shims are early BE1 (84>86) and late BE3 and BE4 boxs from 97 onwards everything else does not.

Oil wise I used normal 75/80 with a old gripper, You'll find in a search the box's are very oil sensitive so what oil may suit a diff doesn;t suit the box and can destroy them in no time at all

Same for me with a Tran-X just normal 75/80, though OPIE did reccomend I used a good quality one but that was it.

My Gripper i use standard 75w80, as i do with the Kaaz & TranX too, as Miles says otherwise it kills the gearbox as the synchro's rely on it.
