Where Can I Get A 205 Gti

Recommended Posts

Huggy bear

Hi - I'm currently searching for the right 205 GTI , and just want to make sure that I'm covering all bases. Obviously on here, piston heads, auto trader and ebay , but are there any others I have missed ?

I have upto to 2.5k to spend for the right toy , needs to be relatively standard - in Black/Graphite/White/Red . I don't mind spending less on the car with the view to completing the restoration but I would like a car that has been sorted as much as possible, ie no rust issues , no engine issues ,cambelt done etc and needs to be tidy all round with good paint.

I have cash waiting for the full amount if I can find the right car or can even negotiate a swap deal plus cash etc for my track day XR2 if interested.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT

Any advice for when I buy a 205 would be appreciated, I did own one 15 years ago but don't remember much about it other than how much fun it used to be !!!

Cheers

J

rust. rust behind headlamps, lower sills and any other points along the chassis really. the most common problem is the sh*tty idle due to poor ICV's. many also run very rich due to poorly air flow meters, I wouldnt be surprised if it has faults with the injectors too - not all injectors firing the same quantity of fuel into the engine. as with many 20 year old cars, the ruber bushes are likely to be perished if not changed recently, even replacement parts degrade fast (cheap motorfactor items have been known to last 2-3k miles). I would keep away from the ones which have been "ported and polished" as usually this has 'no proof' and is often done by a teenager with a dremel, to the poorest standard. what ever you buy, it will be 20 years old.

also, I have seen several with the red panel on the tailgate as well as the more standard black one, personally I like the black one so if I were to consider a car with the red panel are they interchangeable and easy to replace or are they permanent ?

Yes. The red reflective panels fetch a premium as they're getting quite scarce.

I will probably sell my Phase 2 Sorrento Green 1.6 shortly. Long tax and mot, new cambelt, rebuilt beam etc.

For that kind of money I would personally expect a near mint standard 8v or a well done conversion.

nice cars but not my cup of tea, I'm looking for a more standard car -- bit torn between the 16./1.9 if truth be known, I'm leaning more towards the 1.9 and spotted these earlier but I seem to have missed them both :

Don't be fooled into thinking the 1.9 is any quicker. Many people actually prefer the 1.6 due to its reviness.

That's not to say the 1.6 is any better though, I would have either no problem.

ive got a k plate non sunny that has a 1.9 8v going in it soon, was a just gti car, had a mi in it, now a spare engine for my track car, tidy car in graphite grey, has few marks on it etc. also i have my black 1.9 8v thats on a H plate, i'm the second owner from new, needs a beam on it, ( i have a fully rebuilt beam to be fitted!) car hasnt been on road for couple of years, currently dry stored in a barn. will be MOT'd before selling, nice sound standad car, had a knock in n/s quarter years ogo, managed to pull it out and not really noticeable untill you open pass door and see damage where door closes. if your interested in either then let me know. i'm in essex too. where abouts are you? ian

that's good to know and opens my options a bit more although I must admit most of the potential ones so far have all been 1.6's so I was probably going that route anyway ;O)
