Diesel Flywheel

hey lads, just a quick question as i tried searching and found nothing..

does anybody know if a flywheel off a xu7d engine fit a xu9td? got a 1.9 d-turbo engine out of a peugeot expert but the clutch is bigger in diameter, and just want to know if the flywheel can be swapped over?

thanks

I'm pretty sure that the flywheel can be swapped just fine, but I'm not sure how well the 200mm clutch on an XUD7 will cope with the significantly higher torque output of the XUD9T engine.

what gearbox are you using? I used standard 205 1.8 diesel box with standard 1.9 td engine and flywheel from 306/405 with no problems. Are you sure you need to change the flywheel ?

you have to ask for push clutch for 405 1.9td.

yea im planning on using the xud7 (1.8d) gearbox, but wasnt sure if i should use that clutch and flywheel..

the clutch on the xud9t is bigger and so is the splines on the clutch disc are a larger diameter, that is probably for the gearbox for the expert van.. does the xud9t clutch disc fit the xud7 gearbox shaft? so basically i just need a 405 td clutch kit?

coming from an expert van it my well be an ME or ML gearbox, so you definitely need to swap the flywheel and clutch for something used in a BE gearbox, preferably from an XUD9 to cope with the torque as mentioned, unless you fancy custom driveshafts and gear linkages.

all BE clutches will fit ll BE input shafts, but there are a few different clutch release mechanisms, the 1.9 TD is a pull type like the 16v XU10 engines.

From a quick look at my haynes diesel engine manual & service box, the n/a XUD9 has the same size 200mm clutch as the XUD7 but all the turbo versions (XUD7t & XUD9T) use a 215mm clutch so you'd be better suited with the flywheel to match that size clutch to avoid any slipping problems or eating clutches imo.

i have found that myself, and the expert/dispatch vans have the 225mm clutch, obviously for pulling heavier loads ect...

i will be putting in a 215mm clutch as there must be good reason in which they were used in the first place, have the engine basicly ready to go in now, just done the timing belt and took out the immobiliser today, ( the immobiliser casings are really desinged not to come off  but with gentle persuation with a hammer, cheisel and angle grinder they come off)

also looks much better with them off then a hole cut out of them...

thanks for the info lads, you pointed me in the right direction.. appriciated
