Gti-6 Oil Pressure Gauge?

Recommended Posts

fatony1

Having a little problem with my oil pressure gauge. Everything else in the instrument cluster works fine so im convinced its the sender at fault (not the wiring on the GTI-6 converted loom). Once started the gauge sits all the way over to the right of the gauge. It stays like this no matter how hot/cold the engine is and it doesnt fluctuate with revs as it did on the old 1.9 8V. Anyone got any ideas? The sender is screwed into once of Miles' adapters so i can run the gauge and the warning light sender.

Thanks in advance

Wires for the oil press gauge and oil low pressure stop light the wrong way around

Prob the wrong way around in your converted loom plug where it plugs into the 205 car loom ;)

Does the STOP light and low oil pressure light come on with the ignition, and go out when the engine starts?

Does the oil pressure gauge read zero when the ignition is on but the engine not running, and then jump up and sit on max when the engine is running?

If so, it does sound like the oil pressure gauge sender is at fault, although worth remembering that typically on a GTi-6 it will read pretty much full oil pressure until the oil warms up and begins to thin down - even at idle!

Yes both come on (with the other dash lights) on the first and second click of the ignition.

No, the guage shoots up to max (all the way to the right) with the first and second click of the ignition, same as the warning lights

Any ideas?

Miles

As Cos K has said, just swap the wires around or you have a short somewhere

If he did have the wires the wrong way around the gauge would read zero oil pressure when the engine is running (i.e. oil pressure light off), rather than remaining at maximum oil pressure. Sounds to me like you have a short circuit somewhere in the oil pressure gauge wiring.
