205 Issues - How To Go About Them?

Recommended Posts

Now the 205 is back on the road I am quite enjoying it but I do still have a couple of issues which I need to contend with.

The car kangaroos on light throttle sometimes very violently (as if the engine is locking up) unless you have a careful right foot. I have disconnected the TPS and whilst it's not's completely gone, it is an improvement from before. But with an MOT around the corner I'll probably hope to get the TPS either adjusted (to see if that is all it needs) or if it turns out to be shot, get a replacement. Peugeot, however claim that it is built into the AFM. Anybody able to provide me with a part number and where else I can get a TPS from if it comes to that?

Second query is regarding the STOP light. On both of my 306s it worked, but on this car it doesn't, Could it be a bulb or does the loom/connector go in a certain place? Whilst all of my gauges work, the oil level tends to flick about from time to time when the car is running, generally flicking about a little more when on the move. Is is normal or is the level switch gone etc?

Besides that, the car is a good hoot to drive .

The TPS is on the side of the throttle body, not in the AFM. It sounds like it probably needs a good tune. The vac advance from the distributor may have gone so the timing is not optimised for low down the revs. Pull the pipe from the throttle body to the dizzy off at the throttle body end and suck on it. If you can draw air then the diaphragm has gone in the unit and this will impact your advance and retard on the dizzy. Once this is fixed, you can time this up properly.

The flicking oil pressure (top left gauge) will most likely be down to a brown multiplug that has got dirty and lurks around the gearbox and AFM. Give this a clean and your garges should return. It may cure your stop light issues too.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

The Dizzy I was going to look into oddly enough as I'm not sure if the advance mechanism/weights are in their best state. So I'll check the vacuum advance first.

It is not my oil pressure gauge which is flicking, but my oil level gauge (top right gauge).

The top right hand gauge is oil temperature. If it is flicking about then most likely you have a wiring problem somewhere, and the wire is shorting to earth.
