Group N Rear Beam Mounts

Recommended Posts

Stevo309

Decided to go with Group N beam mounts (rear blocks) and OE front bushes as advised by others. Problem is where do i get the Group N mounts? BBM are showing out of stock and evidently looking at old forum threads they have been since 2006! Pug Sport are showing them as available but are priced at £50+ posted for a pair.

None on Ebay that i could see either

Ayone got any ideas?

Thanks

Skip Brown supply the rear blocks.

I've got a full set of OE front bushes if you want to take them off my hands, though I don't think they were cripplingly expensive from Pug.

Thanks guys. I've emailed BBM but no response so i'll try SBC.

Will call in at my local dealer regarding the rear bushes.

Ok guys called and left a voicemail with BBM although in the meantime my "BUY IT NOW" trigger finger got the better of me and I ordered Group A stuff ;)

Hope that won't be too harsh for a standard road car!? I guess a tight back end is never a bad thing though  and i still have tyres and dampers for softening the road vibration.

One problem though is that i plan to replace ALL the bushes for the mounting of the rear beam. As far as i can see though the front "bushes" cannot be replaced currently by anything other than nylon Group A parts. The OE bushes are NLA apparently (and were expensive) so you're only left with the nylon parts as an option. I've also heard that these bushes never wear and do not need replacing but can't help myself to replace these things so you know where you are with it.

I suppose a good compromise would be to use the nylon Group A bushes at the front and Group N mounts at the back.

Stu rang me back, really nice guy and helpful as i'm sure you probably already know  He says that he hasn't had any Group N mounts for about a year and hasn't got another batch in the pipeline at the moment.

I'd have a search about people's opinions on different bushes.

My summary from when I looked into it (though you should draw your own conclusions):

At the front wishbones, stick with OE parts, they are still available. The nylon parts aren't strictly a bush, they don't twist, instead they are more a bearing and as such are prone to wearing out quickly. You are rewarded with a harsh, crashy ride before they do fail.

At the back you have three options; original is not so bad but needs to be fresh. Group N (whatever that really means) is a harder rubber sandwich but still original bushes at the front of the back. Group A or solid which by all accounts isn't too crashy. Like I said, Skip Brown stock the group N if you don't want to go solid at the back. I like the Group N setup as it feels taut without being harsh.

I have a Fast Road setup on mine with Peugeot front bushes, Peugeot rear sandwich bushes (had some GSF ones that just sheared and Peugeot are only a couple of quid more). I didn't want a harsh ride. I left the front ones alone

I had the solid rear beam mounts on a previous 205 and I didn't find it crashy in the slightest. I felt it made the car feel as though it was screwed together much better. Kind of wierd as you'd expect it to amplify the poor build quality, but it was the total opposite. Defo a worth while upgrade IMO.
