Mi16 Idle Control Valve

Idle Control Valve seems pointless! If I remove it and blank all the associated pipe work will the engine still run smooth all the time?

Without an ICV, getting an Mi16 to run properly when cold and still retain a normal hot idle speed isn't easy - especially if you have one of the later Mi16 throttle body housings without the idle speed screw on it.

I can't quite see why you'd want to remove it - it's one of the biggest benefits that Mi16's (and other modern management) have over the crude Jetronic system on 8v's and is certainly not "pointless". I wonder if yours is actually working properly if you think that...

As above, the ICV is what makes it able to start on the key with no throttle input hot/cold summer or winter, and also maintains a steady idle regardless of engine load. I even had my AFM fall off once and it still idled :D

Cheers CW thats a good resaon to keep it. I understand what the valve is for, I deemed it "pointless" as mine only seems to hold the revs high for a very short period on cold start (maybe because its "summer" I'm not noticing it much?). If you thiink it will effect the running when hot i'll leave it well alone. The engine already runs a little rough on idle due to the shortened manifolds and the effects this has had on the pulsing.

It's not a "cold-start" valve like the 8v air valve, it's function is to maintain idle regardless of load or other conditions. They do have a higher idle when cold but it's just the ECU controlling the idle via the ACV but when warm it's still being used to maintain the 850rpm etc.
