Gti Fuel Pump

i am having fuel pump issues. the car i have is an xs shell with gti running gear and gti6 engine. it has been made up from allsort of parts that have been available, mainly a 1.9 with reverse under 5th and power steering ( i presume being a phase 2) during a rally, my fuel pump went suspect and was replaced with another (thanks chris h) i cant remember which pump came out of the tank, the one i put in is black and has part number 0850 464 998 on it (bosch) since this pump has been fitted i have suffered fuel surge that i dont remember getting before. i now need a new pump and it looks like the one i have is the older type pump. the walbro replacement does not cover this model number. could i have fitted an older phase 1 pump into a phase 2 tank? any help would be appreciated. i dont want to get a new pump to replace the early one i have if i should have a phase 2 pump in there

Managed to get a new replacement pump for the housing that came out of the tank. Hopefully it is the same as the original pump that was once in there

What a difference it has made. I thought it had a soft cut rev limiter for the last year. It now revs out and goes like stink. The best £80 I have spent on the car. It is strange how one of the most important parts often gets neglected.
